Since you have to put on a scuba mask, air hose and mouthpiece Elon would say it is not a very compelling underwater vehicle.

And since the aerodynamics are horrible it is not a very good car.

I think Elon will develop a compelling submersible car.

The auction took place in September, but Tesla spokeswoman confirmed that Elon was the successful incognito bidder yesterday. Thursday was also the day when they released date for the Q3 ER. Seems to be to much for a coincidence. Looks like Elon is trying to send some sort of coded message on what is coming during the Q3 ER...

The media takes Musk way too seriously, he's obviously joking.

"I was disappointed to learn that it can't actually transform," Musk said in a statement provided by Tesla. "What I'm going to do is upgrade it with a Tesla electric powertrain and try to make it transform for real."

He bought a movie prop and is having fun with it. The "sub" isn't sealed and would flood if it went in the water.

I think Musk can make it water tight and actually do it. He's certainly put it out there, and hasn't said "I was only joking". It's certainly not an impossible task, and easier to do as an EV than an ICE.
