(i haven't seen it on the actual Tesla webpage yet) via Bloomberg: Tesla Inc. is trying to make it easier for city dwellers without plugs at home or at work to own its electric cars, targeting city centers with the expansion of its supercharger network. The first of Tesla’s new urban stations to open for charging Monday will be a 10-stall location in Chicago and an eight-stall site in Boston, according to a company blog post. The chargers will deliver less power than those located along highways or at longer-distance destinations like hotels and resorts, meaning drivers will wait 45 to 50 minutes to replenish their battery.
My brother works a few floors up from the Tesla store on Boylston Street, I have asked him to scope it out...
They are a new style of dedicated 72kW chargers. (Not paired stalls.) Tesla unveils new ‘urban’ Supercharger with a slower dedicated charge rate Tesla Targets City Centers for Supercharger Network Expansion
Seams like a bummer for states that charge based on kW... $0.16 per minute above 60 kW $0.08 per minute at or below 60 kW I'm surprised they didn't make it 61kW
@BlueShift Time to update your map, Tesla shows they are live. And maybe there needs to be a new symbol/color for these 72kW chargers.
They won't stay at 72 kW for the entire charge. In order to protect the battery, they will still gradually decrease even though they aren't shared with another stall. For those who have to pay to Supercharge, they would pay the higher rate when charging between 60 kW and 72 kW and the lower rate once charging goes below 60 kW.
Researching a trip for a meeting downtown Boston, this location was generic Coming Soon last week. Now the pin is near Prudential Center.
The Tesla map also shows superchargers coming soon (by the end of 2018) in Fenway, South End, Seaport, Charlestown, Cambridge, Waltham and Burlington. Tesla is really making an effort to make having a Tesla without home charging possible in the Boston area. Those urban superchargers are so much better than having to rely on ChargePoint which is what I'm doing now with my Volt.
I don't know about the Pru robot, but I think this one's a metaphor for self-driving: DC security robot quits job by drowning itself in a fountain Great to see these 72KW units, at the Pru. We'll see if they attract the city-dweller (w/no plug). The announcement on Inside EVs shows this is what Tesla is after. And it looks like it might work, as visits to "supermarkets, and shopping centers" last enough to put serious miles back into any Tesla, let alone the one that gets ~126MPGe. 10X the power of ChargePoint. I pity those guys. VW has to get in their way, by law. And now, this.

Man, I was up there for a few days and just drove back yesterday. Had these been available I would have been tempted to spring for the parking rather than drive all the way out to Dedham.
