Brake Pedal Noise

So when starting or stopping I can hear a sort of Grinding/clicking sound from the brake pedal. I listen outside and it's not audible outside so It's inside. I've taken the panel off and looked up from the floor to see if the brake pedal is catching on something as it releases/engages.

I suspect it's the mechanical device (don't know name) that engages the bakes when hold is on, and therefore it is faulty or got a loose something. I don;lt hear it when pressing the pedal, it only when the car is engaging/releasing the brakes.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a noise or can point me to the part. I'll be taking it at some point when I have time.

I can hear a small click when the brake system holds the car as you indicated. There's no grinding though...

All I hear is a high-pitched squeal when the actual brakes come on... I've tried slamming on the brakes to clear this up but the regen is turned so high I'm not sure how much actual braking I'm doing.

On a related note, there is some noise when the hold brake comes on but, yeah, not a grinding noise.

Grind might be a bit strong, maybe sound of popcorn popping for a second or so. I think it's the actuator (of whatever its called) and electronically applies the brake pedal

It happens when you set the stopping mode to 'hold'. The car is applying the brakes to hold the car.

I agree, it's just not the "right" sound. I made a video. My 2018 Model 3 make a slight tick, the 2021 SR Y makes the noise in the video, popcorn is a better description

What in the world. Does that happen only when you are in motion and slowing down? Definitely sounds like some plastic has come off and is rubbing somewhere but not sure what would cause the constant noise.

Only when going real slow, coming to a stop or accelerating from a stop. appointment tomorrow so should know soon

Dropped car off at service
Tech drove with me and is sure it's something in the floor??? So might need to drop battery pack if can't get it from top. I'll update when they update me.

it sounds like when you have cruise control on in stop and go traffic and decide to go faster than the car wants you to go -- it freaks out and applies the brakes etc.

The Y has a "click" and a little movement in the pedal right when the car fully stops or begins moving (either with Hold on or using autopilot). It's normal and something I've noticed in several other cars with auto-cruise.

Yah it's not this, or at least if it is it something broken related to this.

I'm not sold on the techs diagnosis of something rolling around in the floor as I don't hear it when breaking at faster speed. But we shall see soon I hope.

As I me mentioned, mine makes the same noise. I think it's the actuator that moves the break pedal but looking forward to an official diagnosis.

So yah something in the floor vent. Noise completely gone.

Dam kids. They didn't charge and ended up replacing so fluid temp sensors while it was there.

Get down in the back and shine a light in the vent, I wish I did that rather than waste time.
