Since nobody responded to my 2018 question maybe someone will now. I still wonder if anybody has insight to when Tesla might bring cars to Brazil.
We now have a fair variety either already here (Jaguar, Porsche, Audi, three JAC models) or arriving imminently (Peugeot, Chevrolet, Nissan, Volvo, VW, Chery, etc) so there is beginning to be some reasonable interest, plus quite good incentives (zero or reduced IPVA [annual car tax] in major States. It seems ready for Tesla, especially because the Bolsonaro government is really excited to get Tesla here building something. A Tilburg-like facility would make import duties almost disappear, and that could be anywhere in Mercosur or in Mexico, which has favorable duties. Mexico will probably have something anyway, given Tesla GF5 being new Austin.
I admit I'd rather have a Y than a 3 but any Tesla will let me discard my hated ICE. If Tesla does not come I'll probably buy the Volvo XC-40 Recharge Electric that will arrive here in a few months. I really want another Tesla.
Several of us in my area have Model 3 reserved since early 2016. We're nothing if not patient.
