Broken embedded twitter images?

So for some reason an embedded image gives me this broken image icon:

The text string is the image name portion of the URL:

However, I recently realized if I right click on the broken link and "Open link in new tab", that works:

But, it's obviously my browser loading the image directly from twitter, not the site grabbing the image to insert in to the forum post...

Because I only recently realized I could see these broken images using the "open in new tab" trick (interestingly the mouse pointer does not change as it typically does whn over a valid URL, so I did not realize earlier), I'm unsure if it's only twitter images that are busted, but I think the 2-3 I've run across since have been.

Anybody else seeing this, and/or any ideas how to fix it?

Just ran across a "googleusercontent" embedded that was broken as well. (Which happen to not open successfully in a separate tab either... instead Google displayed a 'do not enter' symbol)
