Brown's electric dream for Britain - UK Politics, UK - The Independent

Alistair Darling, the Chancellor, will announce in his Budget that trials for electric cars in two or three cities will begin next year.

Oh for crying-out-loud! Not MORE trials?

...which will simply conclude that we need major investment in some form of cumbersome infrastructure allowing the government to "conclude" that hybrids and lightweighting are the only viable solutions.

Not holding my breath on this one.

Still:

Mr Brown said he would consider buying a fleet of electric cars for ministers to set an example.

For ministers to set an example (cos that's been going so well recently) or to make an example of ministers? With punishment cars it'll be the latter.

The jobs of the future would come from a "green revolution" and an expansion in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, health care, education, the creative industries, information technology, bioscience and advanced manufacturing.

We seem to be moving from "greenwashing" to "greenwishing"

Malcolm - surely by now you have worked out that the MO of this government is to conduct trial after trial and study after study? Not that that it gives me much pleasure to say that...

So, which car will the ministers get? Lightning GT? Evora EV? (too flash), Vauxhall Ampera? (not flash enough), Model S built in limited numbers at Hethel? (we can wish).
