Building of the Faurrari

It hit me that since taking delivery of the car last month, I haven’t started any build thread. Time to fix that. Deposit #103 in Dallas on 3/31/16, ordered 5/31/18, delivered 10/2/18.

Multi-coat Red
No FSD or white interior

Originally planned on White/White, but after multiple order mess ups from Tesla, by the time we started over one last time, we had reservations about long term care of the white. We then agreed to get a tan interior done later with Multicoat Red.

I went back and forth on which Katzkin interior because none were exactly what I wanted. I wanted Ferrari Cuoio, and the closest was a more orange Autumn shade. It would really end up closer to BMW Cinnamon and exact match of anissan Burnt Orange. Both good but not quite Cuoio. I actually went in to order Katzkin when I saw their custom interior samples. Spotted the Ferrari tan in an instant, and I upgraded. This is smooth leather vs texture on the Katzkin. minor thing, but it makes a difference on top of the color being what I wanted.

How do the carbon mirror caps look in person? The pictures don't show off the weave very well. Do you have a picture of the door sills?

He is from TULSA. Pretty clever use of the letters!

How long have you had the Katzkin interior? How do you like it? I am considering them once the original seats wear out some.

Did you look into adding ventilation to the seats? I know they offer it but not sure if that is something they can do on the 3.

It isn’t Katzkin. It is full custom upholstery using smooth leather. When I was looking at Katzkin, I didn’t look into ventilation because I didn’t want to disturb electrical. Just wasn’t worth it to me. You should be able to, but a shop not comfortable with Tesla might not want to risk it. Definitely consider Katzkin, and don’t wait for the factory ones to wear out. Get them now and enjoy them. Katzkin does OEM interiors. Ford truck’s King Ranch are Katzkin kits in Mahogany. Hey do a lot of Dodge as well.

Was the installer dyslexic? Not only is the E missing one of the stripes it's rotated 90 degrees, also the L and the S are switched up.... Or is this on purpose for some reason that I'm not understanding?

Yeah, the TULSA is subtle for most people. For most, beginning and ending with correct letters, they just assume it says TESLA. Then the people who notice it want to insist that I screwed up because people just like to prove people wrong. They don’t, however, often read what it even says. Then a few people notice what it says. It’s like a good litmus test of people.

I wasn’t catching the two vertical lines stood for “U”. Maybe add one of the three strips to form the bottom of the u?

I thought about that. I first had it with the 3 bars vertical, but it was pointed out that is a W. Double bars makes the U. When I rearranged them to make |_| it didn't look right at all. I want it to be subtle.

Just got the call that the spray materials arrived for Spray Wrap, Autoflex clear, black trim, and bronze wheels. Thanksgiving poses a problem, so maybe next week. I should get the spacers installed tomorrow. since my bump stops for hockey puck jack spacers arrived as well.

I was anxious to get my spacers on. Got my puck jack adapters made, socket for my torque wrench, jacked up the car and put the first one on. Can’t get the wheel on. Took a closer look, and the new bolts are closer to the edges. I got 5x114.3 to 5x120 (Model S) adapters. Lenny happened to make a typo sending the work order to the shop, so he’s on it and taking care of me. Just have to wait a little longer. Stuff happens

are these spacers the design 2 or 3? Not sure of the difference on the website as the description is the same.
