CA carpool sticker -- Best to order in November for 2021?

Yay!!! I guessed right! Now I can add some blue accents to my stormtrooper. Thank goodness it wasn't pink. The application still sitting in my glove box since July, waiting to be mailed out on 1/1.

Do you know if you have to have your metal permanent plates to apply, or can you use your temporary paper plates that come with new car?

I used the permanent plates, but mine took like a month for them to come in, then ran to AAA to swap for my Vanity plates, the same day they arrived.

You need your permanent plates.

when did you apply? I am impatient and planning to drop my application in mail today.

I applied back in October and I honestly wasn’t even thinking about the potential for a color change. I went ahead and installed the smaller orange ones front and back and its not the worst thing in the world. I may make a run at asking the DMV for the newer color but am not holding my breath.

Sorry, but don't hold your breath... Unless they change the law in 2025

I dropped it in mail and also send it certified ..just an extra $3.50.. worth it so you know its delivered with signature and the date they received would also be known.

USPS delivered my certified mail on Jan 8 ..almost 10 days from LA to Sacramento.

My check was delivered first week of January 2021 and my check hasn’t been cashed to date. I don’t think they are checking the mail or something.

They only cash the check when they are processing your form. Once they do, the stickers will arrive in a week or so. They simply have a massive backlog.

Lockdown or not, the DMV is mind-numbingly slow. Took over 8 weeks last time I did this (Jan. 2018).

All, you don't need the permanent plates as you are able to update the info online via the CA DMV.

Yup, this! I submitted my forms the last week of December, I'm still waiting.

On another front I bought a car for my wife in October, the company filled out the original title information incorrectly so they needed to order a duplicate title from the DMV. They did that the second week of October, and they have STILL not received it (14 weeks later!). I can't even register the car...DMV sucks right now.

Could thing is that courts, cops, etc are all being exceedingly understanding. Not just with lack of proper paperwork and all but with pandemic and all the other chaos.

It took 3 months from mailing my application and check to get the sticker for my Clarity in 2019. Sent the application in December and still got the newest carpool sticker (maybe cause they didn’t process it until 2020?)

Some of the workers don’t give a crap. They will take their precious time. Working fast has no point bc there will always be another day with no deadline. Government government. Try that in the private sector.

Just a FYI for those that sent their stuff late last year and hasn’t been processed yet. My in-laws submitted their application in October 2020 and they just got their sticker and it’s the new blue one. Looks like it’s based on when they processed it and not when it was sent like others have said.
