I put down a rectangle of PPF and then used the factory bracket. Spending money on an aftermarket bracket is six levels of stupid faffery as far as I’m concerned.

I used an aftermarket bracket called "The Bandit" - easy install and holds it away from the front bumper. (photo attached).

Tesla supplies you with a front license plate holder. It works fine and likely was actually aerodynamically tested whereas these aftermarket options were not.
I'm in CA and leave the front plate off. They wont pull you over for it. They will add it on if they pull you over for something else though. They will also ticket you if you are at a meter. Its only $25 so I just pay them when I get them. In the last decade I've maybe gotten 3 of them.

Just have it off and have the front clean look. CHP has more worries than a front license at this time ( speeding, reckless driving, etc..). If you do get a pull over, its not going to be for front license plate. Like @AdamVIP said, they will just add it in. This goes with illegal tint. They aren't really going to pull you over for it.
I have SnapPlate as well. It works well. Though I rarely actually have it on... it works when I do put it on. At least during this whole CoronaVirus thing, I know cops aren't going to be pulling people over for small things like no front plate. So we'll see if that changes once things get back to normal.
Actually, not having a front plate is probable cause to pull you over. LEO'S pull over cars for no front plate "ALL" the time. FYI. Next time when you're in downtown LA go by the traffic court on Hill street. You will see how many people have been pulled over just for no front plate.

Been there 2+ years, about a dime worth of zip ties. Actually protected lower lip when I bumped a cement parking space barrier
License Plate Wrap
It's an official DMV authorized program. You need an official letter from the DMV (which that company will get for you). They first confirm your VIN and plate number match, then produce the decal and obtain the letter from the DMV.

Front license plate is not deemed as traffic violation. It deemed as a " Fix it ticket". Any fix it tickets are cleared though CHP office. Then you mail it in.
I've been through this process a couple times for exhaust, tint, & being low.
And how is it probable cause is the officer is behind you? Only way the can see if they are on the opposite side of the road.

I prefer having my black license plate breaking up the all-white bumper. I used the bracket supplied by Tesla. Looks great.
