California, how long do you wait for your plates to be delivered?

I took delivery December 4th and here we are 9 weeks later and still no plates. Is this common? To get my carpool stickers do I have to wait until I get my plates and then apply for it? I would really like to drive in those carpool lanes!

The upside to not having plates is free toll roads in So Cal!

I applied before my plates arrived and received the stickers. But 9 weeks is really long. I'd check on them if you haven't already.

Yes, you should check with your Delivery Specialist. I had the fastest delivery of my MS plates of any vehicle I've ever purchased... just over 3 weeks, and I was shocked. I submitted paperwork and sent in my check for the White HOV Sticker the day the plates and registration arrived -- those took another 5 weeks or so to finally hit my mailbox.

I took delivery on the very same day, but at the factory. I got my plates in the mail sometime in mid January, but I haven't put them on yet. I only used the plate to apply for HOV stickers and figure I'll put the plate on when the stickers arrive.

It normally takes about 2 weeks to receive license plate in California.
My Tesla took 10 weeks to receive license plate, because Tesla lost my purchase agreements when they mail my documents internally, I contact them after 8 weeks, they resubmit my documents to DMV, I received my plate 2 weeks later.

Four to five weeks for the plates, then another four weeks or so for the white stickers. This was last October.

Three weeks for mine to appear for Model X. I sent the $8 for CAV HOV stickers immediately after getting the registration and plates in the mail.

Mine arrived in a white envelope that hides the DMV yellow envelope. Almost looked like an advertisement, except for the stiffness of the plates.

May be different in CA but in Colorado it took THREE MONTHS. Had to go back for another paper tag.

9 weeks seems too long for California. I waited about 3 weeks for my license plates here in SoCal, and another ~4-5 weeks for my HOV stickers after that.

Picked up car just after Thanksgiving 2015 in Palo Alto and received plates in the mail just before Christmas 2015.

Picked up my Tesla on 3/30/15, plates received 5/4/15. Applied for HOV 5/4/15. HOV stickers received 6/6/15.

My plates have an April date, so I'm assuming that Tesla didn't turn in the paperwork to DMV until a few days later.

At the time, it seemed that it took forever for the plates to arrive, but I guess it wasn't all that different from getting the white stickers.

It does seem like in California it is about 4 weeks to get plates and then 4 weeks to get HOV stickers after you send in a check for $8. I got my California rebate about 4 weeks after sending in the form.

I just received my third temporary plate from Tesla. Delivered on Dec-23-15. I have not had to ask, they just keep coming, before the last one expires.

I picked up the car on Dec. 12th 2015 (California), received my pink slip after 4 weeks, which referenced my license number and allowed me to apply for the HOV sticker.

My plates didn't show up until 7 weeks after getting the car and the HOV stickers showed up a week later.

The plates come from Tesla not directly from the DMV so it could be that Tesla is responsible for some of the delay.

Got my car on 8/22/2015 and got the tags on 10/9/2015. They had to mail me another set of temp tags after the first set expired after 30 days. Pretty poor service and a complete lack of proactive response from the DS. I had to goad them with multiple emails asking them to track down the plates and to expedite the delivery as I could not apply for the HOV tags with temp tags. Very frustrating, but fortunately, the only pebble in the shoe in the whole delivery process and thereafter.

I believe it took 8-12 weeks for me to get mine in fall 2014. Maybe they were busy or just tired. I suspect the latter.
