After not being available for the last few months, you can now order personalized plates again. The websites say expect 4-6 weeks for delivery. Here's what I just ordered.

Thanks for the heads up! Just ordered mine. Did it directly through aaa. They said they're still looking at a 6-8mo lead time. Something tells me 4-6 wk is a bit ambitious.

I ordered last March, I know I know, and I didn't get my plates until winter. I'd plan on a long lead time!!

My understanding is they let all the prisoners who were making the plates out dude to COVID and it may be a while until they capture new ones to make them.

I think it's $40 or $50 each year, if my memory is correct.

Interesting didn’t know that aaa were allowed to order vanity plates. How is the process different or improved from the dmv site? Do they tell you what is available?

^^^Yes, they can tell you what’s available. The advantage is you can go right in and pick them up instead of waiting in long lines at the DMV.

I think they're shipping plates now

^^^Hope that’s the case. Just prior to the pandemic the DMV sent me a postcard for me to go in and pick up the plates for my other car.

Interesting. I wonder if I can reserve plates for future cars like the cybertruck. I don’t know if the dmv does this directly anymore?

I guess I could just order and transfer. But that seems like a pain too.

Man I hope this is the typical wait time. I ordered a week after you. Did they actually mail it to you or did you have to go pick up at the DMV?

^^^The plates were delivered directly to my house although I have to return the old plates to my nearest DMV office. I'll try taking them to the Auto Club first.
