California rebate

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
The California air resources board just changed their rebate policy on November 1st. The new policy excludes electric vehicles costing more than $60000 delivered after December 3rd.
So, unless the Model S I just ordered is delivered by December 3rd I am going to miss out on the $2500 rebate.
(The federal $1875 tax credit expires on December 31st)
I cannot reach anyone at Tesla with any knowledge about expected delivery date; the website says 3 to 6 weeks. Extremely frustrating!
I sure hope someone at Tesla expedites California deliveries this month!

If you want delivery before Dec. 3, you should contact your delivery specialist to see if there is somthing on the ground that can be delivered in time. They are very aware of these deadlines, and I believe they will be working behind the scenes to get as many S/X delivered as possible before the deadline.

I hope you are right. Ordered X on 10/22. Contacted my SA and he did not know much but was going to look into it. Have not heard back.

You need it delivered by December 2nd. The application has to be submitted on the 2nd for it to be under the old rules. Yes, it sucks terribly.

On the person who got the P3D, can you remove FSD and then add it back in afterwards? That may get you under 60k?

I could, but it would be a grand extra when I add it back and I would need to schedule and wait for FSD to be added back. I spoke with Tesla and the SA are trying hard for deliveries but in the end the production lines and were the cars are being routed are out of their control.

Suggest people can contact their California legislators to complain about the inadequate notice and unfair policy change: findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov. Maybe they will extend the policy implementation until December 31st.
Meanwhile, does anyone know how to contact ANYONE at TESLA delivery or corporate level so we could beg them to prioritize California deliveries this month?
yep, this sucks.....ordered my Model S on 16 Oct.......I was worried about the " free life time charging " because they told me it had to be delivered before 31 Dec.....but I called Tesla and they told me its on my contract and there is no issue....we'll see......

Looks like the rebate amount is reduced from $2500 to $2000 on the CVRP website:

Vehicle Rebate Amounts:

Standard rebate amounts will be reduced. The new rebate amounts will be:
$4,500 for Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles
$2,000 for battery or range-extended electric vehicles
$1,000 for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles
$750 for zero-emission motorcycles

Sooo on a 90-100k+ car, $2500 makes the difference? This is why they cancelled it, Frankly us S owners can afford it.

Let the ones struggling to get a 3 have the rebate.
I agree.
If someone has that kind of money to spend on a car, it’s safe to assume they’re not crunching pennies to buy one.

Yes getting money is always nice, but I think this credit can do more good going to people who need it most.

And this is coming from a guy who was looking forward to the money so I can place it all on the Patriots winning the SB again!

EVERYBODY crunches pennies. This is how we are wired. Does not matter how much money you have, people want value and the best deal they can get.

Average person around the World only makes a couple thousand $ a year. They would be amazed to see that someone rich enough to afford ANY Tesla would concern themselves with rebates...but we do!

Oops. I meant to say “pinches pennies”
3 hours of sleep per night is catching up to me.
Yes we all want value and the best deal, however this new limit can be more beneficial in selling more electric cars to lower income families.

Exactly, so excluding those who can afford a more expensive vehicle will leave more money for those buying lower priced EV’s. Of course that’s just an assumption. I’m sure there are plenty of people who can afford the expensive tesla S/X but choose to purchase a model 3 instead.

Plus less firepower for the naysayers who bring up government incentives as the sole reason for Teslas success.

State of California says the changes are due to the success of that program. More people are applying than they have budgeted it for. Still want to give an incentive, but are not as generous as before.
this stupid state has just approved the new budget for next year and there is more money there for the rebates....also, they were taking to increase the rebate from 2,500 to 7,500...

I see your point, but Model 3 and all other electrics are not the luxury car i want in my retirement. I will cancel my order and go buy a gas guzzling cadilac or something if they don't change their mind on the rebate (or unless Tesla actually gets me the car by the deadline!) And trust me; I shouldn't be spending money on the Model S with my income... I'm just afraid to invest in anything else right now (stock market due for a crash?) and I'm spending my kids inheritance on my dream car!

So you’re going to spend money on gasoline because you might lose out on 2500 dollars?
