California VINs: are you still waiting?

Las Vegas is completely "locked" for assigning VINS I was told yesterday. They said they would try to get Las vegas vins to people within the 6 week window but no promises. 5 weeks for me today.

I was afraid of this for you. And my 67XX VIN enunciates that story. They're clearly sticking to CA so they can make the Q1 deadline, coupled with a few random deliveries here and there based on cars already on trucks or sitting at delivery centers.

The lesser-produced configurations were always going one of two ways: either you get lucky and sneak into the tail end of a small batch or you don't and you miss the cutoff and have to wait a while. Really, really sorry to hear you seem to be in the latter group.

If you can stick it out, though I know that's a tough ask given your situation, perhaps you'll be at the top of the list once Q2 rolls around. Near enough to Fremont and waiting to claim a config that obviously belongs to one of the still-remaining holes in the VIN list.

What does "locked" mean?

Will not be giving out any VINS to any new deliveries for at least a week if your delivery is Las Vegas.

Quick update, I got a call from my ISA this morning (Vegas area code), she told me that the vehicle should be ending production soon and that I might take delivery end of next week, but that it might slip to April. SF based and my delivery center will be Fremont.

It’s quite interesting how much faster the Sport wheels seem to be getting delivered compared to then aero’s. I got my vin exactly 4 weeks after configuring, and you already had your car in less time.

Can you normally choose? Do they do Model 3 in the San Francisco one? I was given an appointment at the Fremont one, and to be honest living in SF it's not easy to get all the way there, I would much rather prefer SF delivery.

When purchasing our X in October, we were given a choice, but for the 3, nobody asked for our preference nor did I want to take delivery in SF. It's quite possible they wouldn't deliver in SF given the amount of Model 3's that are expected.

Tonight turned out to be a VINtastic evening ! Around 9:30 pm PDT I refreshed my account and at long last my VIN (116XX) was there! Now the wait begins for contact by a delivery specialist to find out a delivery date and details. Since I will be in the Bay area next week; perhaps I'll be lucky and the specialist can arrange for delivery in Fremont before the end of the month. If Tesla can do that it could provide one more Q1 delivery for Tesla; they will save a few $$ on transportation; and most importantly it would provide room for one more Southern Cal bound vehicle on a truck. Date and VIN have been uploaded to the spreadsheet; have also posted this update to other relevant threads.

Be careful what you wish for. The sales tax rate is higher (2%?) in Fremont vs. San Diego.

Congrats trojaneen! I was surprised too that my vin was in the 82xx range. My pu appt is at 2 pm, whats yours? Anyway hope to see you there!
