Camping in a Model Y

Hi everyone. My new Red Y was delivered a week ago and we (2 adults and 1 small child) did 2 small road trips of which one involved overnight camping. Autopilot assisted road trips and overnight camping in random places is one of the key use cases for this car for me. I tried searching for camping specific threads but haven't found one except the one on Reddit, so I thought it will be nice for us to inventory some tools and pictures / videos in one thread here.

We live in the Seattle are and were in the Seaside, OR area this weekend. Attached a few pics and a short clip of the setup. For the night camping, we carried a tent etc and used it as well. The plan next is to install a rooftop tent on this car and have 2 beds setup for the 3 of us to do a HWY 101 trip along the coast this summer. Is there a way to upload videos on tmc ?

Ooh! In that first photo it looks like you've attached an outboard motor to your MY. That would be perfect for me; I could just drive all the way to the isla... Oh. It's your neighbor's car. Never mind.

Nevertheless, I'm interested to see more camping adventures here!

I bought a cooler that plugs into the 12v in the cargo area.

I used it last night where it was plugged in thru the night with the car in the camp mode from 11 PM to about 7 am. Outside temp dipped to 56 or so at the lowest. The battery drained from 68% to 60%. The cooler kept everything at 32 F from 11 am Friday to 6 PM Saturday with two pre-frozen plastic ice cube things. Pretty happy with it so far. Adding couple of pictures here.

Another item I tried out as a novice camper is the kelty discovery bundle at REI that's on sale now. It's a 4 person tent + 2 sleeping pads ( 1.5 inch thick ) + 2 sleeping bags ( 39 F rated ). All come in one carry bag. I threw it in the frunk and it fits like it's made for the car .

Here's the link Kelty Discovery 2-Person Camp Bundle | REI Co-op

Where did you order from in Germany? Did you receive your mattress & how was the experience?

Me and a friend, both ordered from backpacking-united on the same day. I then saw it was in stock at REI and canceled the backpacking-united order and simultaneously placed an order at REI. Funny thing is both my order and my buddy's order arrived Thursday and Friday of the next week.

Backpacking-united was cheaper by $30 I think.

Recently drove from Louisiana to Colorado for a camping trip. It was absolutely incredible & we did it all camping in the car.

The drive, 26-27 hours, was very easy. No stress, just sat back & relaxed. Basically stopped every 2 hours to charge.

We stayed at an RV park & used the same 14-50 plug to charge every night that we use at home.

Just for reference with the video, I'm 6'3"

Additionally, if I had to do something different, I would probably remove the bottom rear seat cushion to allow the back seats to be more flat (seen those camping in the M3 do this). I will also get/build something to support the corners of the mattress, as it hangs a little over the back seats.

The Tri-fold mattress can fit in the trunk space with the rear seats up & has room to fit a nice sized plastic bin we brought for storage (camping gear, dry food, ect).

Gear:
-Napier Backroadz SUV tent
-Yeti 45
-6" Tri-fold foam mattress
-Reflectix for the windows
-Sunshade for roof (took off once we were there)
-Collapsible camping table from REI
