Can a NAV route be customized?

I just returned form a 250 mile round trip. On the way there, I took the interstate, which was the suggested route.

On the way back, I decided to take a more scenic route, which I got from Google Maps. Once I deviated from the Tesla Nav's suggested route, it kept trying to reroute back the original way. It got so annoying, I cancelled the Nav, then navigated to a town about 50 miles ahead of me on my scenic route.

Is there a way to customize the route you wish to take, when there are multiple options?

That is annoying. How hard would it be to put up a dialog saying "Did you intend to deviate? Yes/No." If Yes, recalculate. If no, guide me back to the route. Any normal GPS system just assumes that Yes, you intended to deviate, and so recalculates the new best route, given the deviation. A choice of returning to the route is not a bad option, but not if it is hardwired in to harass the driver for the next 25 miles.

It seems to like to use the shortest route in miles, never mind that the route it's picked is a tiny residential street with "traffic calming" or zillions of traffic lights, and that there's an arterial route that's only 200 feet longer two blocks away. And if you skip the turn, it gets mad and keeps insisting "please turn soon". It does eventually recalculate, but it sends confusing signals, the voice saying one thing and the map a different.

I've taken to lying about my destination. In particular, breaking my trip into short segments as I've figured out how to fool it into doing the right thing for me. And cancelling when it gets too annoying.

I'd like an option that lets me tune my route to avoid streets with a lot of traffic controls. This should be selectable at any time during my trip, not buried under a bunch of menus. (for example: I'm going to a street with traffic controls but there's a long way around with none. I'll take a traffic light or three to avoid going 5 miles out of my way)(many mapping programs let you select among several optional routes. that may be the best approach)

it took me a while to figure out that to go to my friend's house I have to say "call John Smith" and instead of pressing the phone number, select the address. how hard would it have been to make "navigate John Smith" work?

I've found surprisingly many places where reality and the map are several years out of sync. like, a group of streets that was built >ten years ago....
