The sun in New Mexico is hot and bright these days. In the past I have tinted my car windows but I am hesitant to do the same in the Tesla because of the possibility of water damage under the dash to electronics when the front windshield is treated. While road-tripping today I wondered if a sunscreen could be used instead.

If I understand window tints correctly, some radiation is reflected and some is absorbed in the tint material itself. The material warms up and the heat is dissipated into the cabin and through the glass to the outside. I gather that skin sunscreens have similar functionality: the 'organic' solutions absorb the radiation while the mineral, 'inorganic' solutions reflect.

Since my intent is simply to increase comfort I figure that I should focus on the reflective products.

Sound about right ? Please share experiences and recommendations, and layman physics is always appreciated.
