did anyone try charging their MG ZS EV 2020 car? with Gen 3 charger.
Bit disappointed for misleading info on Tesla Gen 3 charger I.e it can charge all cars.
I got mine installed to charge my MG ZS EV 2020 model, but it stays in solid blue.
I have got the latest firmware 21.36.5 and set it to all cars. No luck
I could not find any Australian support number.

Just checking did you set the internal menu setting to allow all cars? The default is Tesla only.

I have tested my gen 2 with the dip switch set to legacy and the Volvo just gives the error. I spoke to Tesla support about it and they confirmed that the early gen 2 units that shipped with the model S and X supported legacy mode, but the model 3 supplied units were locked.

Will you be selling your Gen2?

I am in the exact same boat. And this has been discussed on the MG forums.
I own a Model S and had a Gen2 charger that supported legacy mode. The Gen 2 charger did charge my partner's MG5 EV but it wasn't as simple as just plugging it in. I can't recall the details but you had to make sure that MG wasn't locked, plug it in and then lock it....or something like that. The MG forums call this the 'MG dance'.
My mum owns an MG ZS EV and I could not get this to charge at all on the Gen 2.
Then my Gen 2 charger developed a fault in the cable. It was six years old so out of warranty. I had to lay the cable on the ground in a specific way to get it to work with my Tesla. And yes, I did try cleaning the pins in the hand piece.
So I purchased a Gen 3 charger. Worked perfectly with my MS, but nothing at all with the MG5 or the ZS. And yes I set it to 'all vehicles'. I even upgraded the firmware as per the Tesla website. Tried reducing max current, and even the earth monitoring, but no dice at all with either of the MGs.
Not sure what the issue is but this needs investigating. Either the Tesla charger is too fussy or MG aren't following the SAE EV signaling rules.

Thanks for this update - while I'm still waiting for my M3 to arrive, seriously thinking of picking up the new model mg zs ev for my wife (will probably arrive quicker too!). So if the gen 3 wall charger can do both cars, will be perfect!

If I order the wall charger, what do I tell my electrician in regards to installing it - will he know how to install it, does it need an isolation switch, is there a better solution (I have read several posts where people are installing 15a/32a circuits and a different plug, and then using their mobile charger to achieve good charging rates, without having to buy the wall charger)

This is covered often and there is a stack of info on it, but in a nutshell the wall connector is a standard electrical fit off for an electrician, there’s nothing specialist to it.
If you have 3ph power it would be wired up accordingly and provide the M3 with 11kw charging rate. (Maximum for the M3, can’t speak for the MG) other EV’s can charge up to 22kw depending on model.
If you have single phase power with the wall charger setup it will provide 7kw maximum because this is the limit of single phase outlet.

The wall charger is the most expensive option if you have single phase power as it doesn’t charge any faster than the other method you mentioned, the 5pin plug plugged into the UMC. (7kw)
That said, some folks are happy to spend the money on the cleaner looks and just prefer the tesla wall connector even though it doesn’t charge any faster with single phase power. This also allows the UMC to remain packed up in the car for trips.

I have 3 ph power now but still use the UMC with the 5pin plug as it meets my daily needs with ease.

That's great! How is it updated? Management interface of the wall connector itself, or does it need a Tesla to plug in to it (and update, in the same way as the UMC gets updated to support full speed)?

Asking on behalf of my employer who has a couple of MG ZS EVs and has a Tesla wall charger to trial.. but ran into this bug.

How do you check the version of the Gen 3 wall charger?

Looks like the socket being recessed into the wall has helped.

The Gen 2 HPWC are updated like the UMC, by a connected Tesla vehicle after charging has finished.

The Gen 3 are updated over WiFi, or you can download the firmware file and upload it manually.

Thanks, the shrine was primarily to cover the wiring behind (not related to the charger) there’s power running for a socket, lighting above and a gate motor all behind and I can’t stand wiring spaghetti.

The UMC holder did take two goes to get right, ultimately it was plugged in and I slid the holder up firmly underneath, then got a helper to remove the plug/UMC so I could screw the holder in. The plug insulation does get warm when charging for a few hours so I think that’s helped mould the shape after a year
