Can I swap HV packs between my cars with the subscription version of Toolbox?

one thing to do with regards to 12V power is disconnect the ground on 12V battery to isolate it from the power bus - after the HV battery has died, the 12V are in notoriously poor shape.

then, jump cables to the top fuse block and a known/fresh 12V with a 12V charger looped into it. that will ensure adequate 12V power with a solid energy sink (the known/fresh 12V). with the existing 12V now completely isolated (an old battery will endlessly gobble up current and cause voltage sag)

note: you can also attach 12V to the jump posts, but sometimes there too you’ll get voltage sag. to be absolutely sure, attach at the fuse block with a separate 12V Battery-12V Charger combo and you’ll be guaranteed to be set with fewer degrees of freedom playing into the equation.

one further note, with these data connector/12V issues you can get some pretty curious errors. one such is a Pre Charge not OK, Charger MIA combo. you can sit there scratching your head (banging your head?) trying to sort it out. then some clean 12V power, and presto errors gone!

precisely why we have the isolate-the-12V-then-offboard-12V-with-the-12V-Charger combo. 12V can be maddening at times.

Awesome. Thank you for the reply. I will demate and clean all the connections. I have been following the tesla procedures to the tee! I really appreciate your help. I will drop the pack and let you know how it goes! Thanx again!

HV DIY SWAP COMPLETED!!! IT'S DRIVING, CHARGING, AND FUNCTIONING AD DESIGNED! Well what worked? Keep the 12v system on a good regulated power supply! After installing hv battery power up the fireman's loop let sit for a minute, then connect the 12v battery mentally nothing the contactor clicks! After completely powered up go into service mode and redeploy either CAN or full software load! This will work for an alike battery swap. If you change battery type Tesla Toolbox will be required!

quick clarification: firmware updates are required for ALL pack swaps - not just when there's a change of battery type. MCU does a compare on all the ECUs to ensure everything is matched and synced. a new pack, of any type, will require a frimware update. 👍
Thank you for the clarification! You guys are awesome! I really appreciate your knowledge and all the support you guys have given me!

I'm unsure why anyone would try this route... I'd never buy a random pack from a bone yard and expect it to work in my car... yikes. heh
How's this any different than buying used car out of warranty??
As long as the pack wasn't opened, came from a working car n u trust the seller (or it has some kind of short warranty against being a dud) i don't see a problem.

Nice work @JeffreyHowell

100% on que! Thank you very much for chiming in! I am confident that this will help others like it did myself!
Brilliant - well done! You might consider a step by step for people to refer to in the future

I’ve always dreaded my battery failing one day, but if it’s seemingly relatively simple to exchange it and then get the software to recognize it then we probably all owe you a drink!
