I've lost my spare key and I know it's somewhere in the house (I think I hid it from my wife and can't remember where I hid it). Anyone have any ideas how to make a locator? Does the key send out regular RF pings, or does it just respond to regular pings from the car? It must be one or the other in order for walk-up door handles to work. If it's the former, I think it will be an easy project. The latter would be more difficult, but doable. If I could at least narrow it down within 30 feet or so, it would help a lot.
Maybe you can reposition your car close to the outside of your house in various areas and see if you can unlock the doors.
Those exist by other makers now. Not nearly as useful as they seem though. Perhaps Tile will "Apple" it and get it right.
My Tesla fob is 3,660 miles away and I can't be too concerned about that particular one.... ...but a propos of this, just Friday my wife thought we should develop such for all the other keys around here. So I countered that all I would do is misplace that particular finder. So.... Surgical implant on its way!!!
Already did! - - - Updated - - - The Tile will not help me find my existing spare, unfortunately. Does anyone know about whether or not it is passive or active?
As far as I know it's passive. If it was active I doubt the battery would last a month. Perhaps the best thing is to train your dog to locate fobs
