Was more than a myth but has not worked for well over 2.5 years now

So the other myth I've seen on here to force an update is to not only be on WiFi and advanced settings turned on but to power down the car, leave it off for 5 minutes or so and then when the car starts up from a power up it checks to see if new software is available. I've tried this the last two major releases are available and within a few hours I'm prompted that an update is available to install. This is probably no more than a coincidence but this method has been posted on here several times.
