Can you use Sentry mode without formatting the USB drive?

I was watching this video and after the first even at around 3:38, the person who submitted the footage, Wes, says to not format the drive. I assumed he meant not to format the USB for Sentry mode but I didn't think you could do that?

I don't have a Tesla yet but I thought you had to format your USB to use sentry mode? If that isn't the case, what is the benefit to not formatting vs formatting?

That's what I thought. I wonder what the owner meant to not format then.

Possibly he meant to not reformat the drive which would erase the evidence?
I don’t know why anybody would even think of doing that but who knows.

I formatted my drive before I picked up the car and put it in before I even left the delivery center. BOTH times.

Sentry is not recording to the new Tesla memory stick in the glove box. Does anyone have an idea why? It will record to a flash drive I insert into a USB in the center console, but doesn’t record at all and the videos cannot be accessed if I remove that flash drive.
