Just ordered 2024 long range ultra red. Had to declare some damage on my trade despite people saying they don't even look at it... but whatever I can't lie. Vin starts with LRW so it's coming from China. Eta is Aug.25-sept.7Here's my perspective:
I had a 2021 M3 SR+ from Fermont it was honestly decent. No complaints on the panel gaps or the paint finish.
Just picked up a 2024 LR built in China (LRW - First letters in VIN) - The paint is not as good as Fermont. There are rattles behind the dash. This is a much-improved model in every way but I would say don't sweat it - all is not perfect in China!
Check a Vin decoder. It will tell you when it was made.Just ordered 2024 long range ultra red. Had to declare some damage on my trade despite people saying they don't even look at it... but whatever I can't lie. Vin starts with LRW so it's coming from China. Eta is Aug.25-sept.7
I tried one it said was made in china but cannot see a date of manufacture. Which decoder should I use?Check a Vin decoder. It will tell you when it was made.
I read online you cannot tell from a VIN when it was made.. how do I figure this out?Check a Vin decoder. It will tell you when it was made.
Where u taking delivery? My 3 LR vin seem to be from Shanghai (LRW). I tried looking for information. they say in its in transit but i wonder if its still on a boat? across the canada (do they arrive in vancouver? or by montreal..) I guess i'll have to train my patience!
St-Bruno, I talk to someone from Laval and said with the current Lock-out from the CN it may get delayed, but that also at the moment mine was not on Hold yet. And that he have an estimate for the 24th. Might change of course.Where u taking delivery?
I posted another thread and was told mine was delayed.m due to rail strike but thag it shows 25th for delivery.. They also are saying pick uo is at another location than what was previously agreed to as I ordered an incoming car to Kitchener... not Etobicoke... I just hope it’s before the end of the month, because I’ll be out of the country.
Tariffs start Oct 1st.This may soon change as Canada is applying 100% duty on Chinese cars starting Sept 1 2024.
C is not going to happen. B is also very unlikely as this will kill Tesla sales in Canada. There could be 3 outcomes:
a) Tesla shifts import source to Fremont
b) Price increase
c) Tesla absorbs tariff costs
With (a), I think RWD M3 still sources its LFP battery from CATL China. Will the tariff apply just on the battery?
Glad I got mine. Kinda knew this is coming.
Usually it is on Vehicles imported after the effective date. Those already here should be fine.I wonder if this applies to cars that are already here but not sold.
When is this incentive being removed? I am picking up Friday and the incentive still shows.Interesting:
"Canada also moved Monday to stop offering the federal rebate, worth up to $5,000, for EVs made in China, implementing a new rule to limit it to vehicles made in countries it has free trade agreements with. That means vehicles made in Korea, Japan and Europe would still qualify but those made in China won't."
"The government has already been in talks with Tesla about switching the cars intended for the Canadian market from China to its other plants. Teslas remain the most popular EVs in Canada."
"She also criticized the Liberals for not going as far as Biden and adding new tariffs on EV batteries, solar cells, semiconductors and critical minerals.
The government said Monday Canada is launching a new round of consultations to possibly add tariffs to those products as well, but it is a slightly trickier equation because unlike electric vehicles, Canada does import those products from China and must tread carefully not to upset the supply chain its own EV industry depends on."
Who knows? I would verify you still qualify before taking delivery. Read the small print, if for any reason the rebate does not apply you must repay the rebate deducted from your final invoice. When is this incentive being removed? I am picking up Friday and the incentive still shows.

I suspect the LFP battery will go away just like in the USA.
