Canadian Stores and Service Centers

Looking past the hysteria at the reality of delivery, as far I as know you are not "forced to accept" a car. I got my Y a few weeks ago and the clear instruction from my DA was "take it, inspect it and let me know when you want to accept it along with a list of any issues you want us to fix". It stayed in delivery mode the whole time while I looked it over, took it home then decided to accept it a couple of hours later. I could also have NOT accepted it and taken it back. This idea that people are forced to take cars in any state and shoved out of the delivery centre is just more FUD.

I don't know where you are getting this "Hysteria". I'm not seeing it. All I'm doing is reading the agreement and understanding what it says. Here's a quote of part of the Motor Vehicle Purchase Agreement:
If you wish to pick up your Vehicle in a province where we are not licensed to sell the Vehicle, or if you and Tesla otherwise agree, Tesla will, on your behalf, coordinate the shipment of your Vehicle to you from a location where we are licensed to sell the Vehicle. In such a case, you agree that this is a shipment contract under which Tesla will coordinate the shipping of the Vehicle to you via a third-party common carrier. You agree that delivery of the Vehicle, including the transfer of title and risk of loss to you, will occur at the time your Vehicle is loaded onto the common carrier’s transport (i.e., FOB shipping point). The carrier will insure your Vehicle while in transit and you will be the beneficiary of any claims for damage to the Vehicle or losses occurring while the Vehicle is in the possession of a common carrier.
I would like an opportunity to view the car for damage before committing to accepting it, just like we had before the 7 day return policy went away. If I lived near a Tesla centre I guess I'd have that option or an option to view the car. Since I'm in NS, I think the above applies. I'd be happy to be mistaken.

You still have the option of review & return, or local repair. I know the local Ranger is more than happy to witness any deliveries that he can fit into his schedule.

Tesla has had to accept that the car carriers they are currently using have not been great at delivering undamaged cars.
This is not to say Tesla is not to blame for damage/defects, just that they’re having issues in the Maritimes that they aren’t running into as much elsewhere in Canada.

The current idea is to find a car carrier that uses enclosed trailers rather than the open air ones in common use. Either that, or stuff like car wraps (temporary ones) are being considered, but costs can be prohibitive unhappily.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 7 day return option has been removed from their literature. What I'm reading is there is no return option.
But back to the carrier situation. I just sold and shipped my Mercedes to Montreal from Dartmouth. They went over the car with a fine tooth comb, recording tiny specks of flaws the naked eye could barely see. Ten or so entries and then he says: This car is immaculate. I came away with a very good impression of their attention to damage. BTW, give me a call when convenient, please. My number in NS group post.

Yes the 7 day has been removed: too many people taking advantage of it. *shrug*

Yeah on an individual delivery, carriers are capable of that level of service. Maybe 1 in 100 cars sustains damage in transit. That’s 99 good deliveries and 1 bad one. When you look at mass transport though, the numbers aren’t nearly that rosy, and it costs the car company time, money and reputation. Some of the money they can reclaim via insurance, but there’s more that they won’t, especially if the damage results in it being returned to sender.

I’m hopeful that having Chapman’s body shop authorized will help cut down on cars needing to return to Montreal/QC, but I’m not privy to the numbers Tesla is having to deal with.

I’ll try to give you a ring sometime today, but I dunno when that’ll be.

Just picked my car up in Quebec City a couple days ago, while there they told me there was a service center going in Halifax 'soon'.
Job listing just came up

Really hope this helps Cody out, he’s overworked as it is.

I wonder if this is an office job or an at home one. If it’s an office job, I’ve got a hunch on where it’ll be located.

When I bought my BMW in 2000, I signed the purchase, but we were heading off to England for a vacation, so I told them I'd pick it up two weeks later when I returned. Before we left, my father in law - an insurance agent - asked "who actually owns it now? Whose insurance covers anything before you pick it up?" I ended up buying insurance (and plates) for the vehicle before I left.

So it may be technical hairsplitting, but who legally owns a vehicle and is liable for it and liable to pay if it is damaged, and especially liable to pay someone injured by it - is important and the details are generally settled case law. Presumably one cannot claim the protection of dealership insurance if they are not a dealer in the province.

I just talked with a service rep in Calgary and she said that a store is supposed to open in Winnipeg in December!

That's good, but the rest of my experience was bad. I wanted to order the winter tire package, including installation. After wasting my time on their phone tree they finally connected me to a person, who told me that no, I can't have the tires installed by Tesla in Winnipeg. At least, not before the new store opens.

@MarcoRP @Poobearcretu does that mean Tesla will be opening a location in Surrey?? That would be awesome!!
That would be cool. If they put it on 104 Ave. and 156 street, there's a Liquidation store beside the GM and Mazda dealership that could be a possible location. . I'll check if there's any activity in the area. Also if South Surrey, there's a automall along King George Hiway..

@bolero if it's going to be a service centre as well as sales (since there are listings for both sales and service reps on LinkedIn), a logical place would be an existing garage that's no longer in business. South Surrey would be nice, but the liquidation store up by Flag would make sense given the proximity to the Guildford supercharger. (Though allegedly there's one coming to White Rock....eventually.... too.). EDIT: but literally anywhere in Surrey would be much more convenient than going into Vancouver!

Yes, it does! Exciting Things are happening!

Finally, a service centre, delivery hub, and showroom in Surrey, BC, is happening. I'll provide more details as I'm allowed.

Nice. For those of us in the Okanagan it cuts a solid hour off as there is no reason to go downtown.

Now what would be really cool is a service centre in Kelowna. Let’s start a rumour. ;).

@Poobearcretu this is really amazing news. To be honest, not having a more local service centre has been one of my pre-purchase concerns. I know it may take some time to get the centre open and running but at least knowing its in the works is a relief. We're on track to place our order at Robson within the next 2 weeks or so, and I'm super-excited to join the Tesla-owning community. :)

I went there today just to check it out. Nothing unusual, aside from a closed out sale sign in the window of the Liquidation store..If i'm not mistaken, this used to be a Mitsubishi dealership. The building looks old but could accommodate a service centre. Mazda use a portion of the property for their new vehicles. this would be a good location since it's close to Highway 1..
