Today was to be my order's confirmation date but after speaking with my delivery specialist, I was informed that I could not request my Model X be delivered at a general time frame towards the end of the year. You CAN do this with a Model S order by pushing the delivery back as much as 6 months. There is verbage on Tesla's site about doing this and using a 1 time deferral but apparently it only applies to Model S.
Now, I know what you're thinking. Hundreds of people on here have been waiting for years for a Model X and you want to wait even longer to get one!!!

Well, my reasoning is because:
A. Our 2nd car is on lease and the lease is ending in October. At that time, I'll be replacing that car with a used car that I purchase in full.
B. I'd actually rather have a few thousand Model X owners take delivery and work out any bugs than to be one of the beta testers ;) in a $100k+ automobile.
C. I was originally going to order a 70D and the delivery time frame for that configuration would have been at the end of the year or early next year. I decided last minute to switch to a 90D for a few different reasons.

I used to have reservation # RNxxxxxx but now I have RNxxxxxx. Certainly there haven't been THAT many new reservations since I made mine on March 3rd. Maybe the first two digits are a code and the last 5 are the reservation counter? That would mean about 6,600 people have added a reservation for a Model X in the past 10 days...??? Or maybe the reservation number is a random string of digits???

Either way, I'm going to wait a couple of months and then configure a new order. I'm sure I will replay the 70D vs 90D debate in my head again.

The RN should not be shared on the forum and should be kept private. . It is like giving someone the keys to your house. The number which is the sequence to all Production Model X's is your Reservation Sequence Number which currently should probably be beteen 30,000 and 40,000 The most important number is your VIN which stays with the car forever but you don't get this until your car is about or is in production. There have been around 5,000 issued. (There is the rare case where a VIN is issued but because of a sourcing problem with a part the production of the car is delayed.)

Remember to register your information on ModelXTracker.com .

RN numbers are arbitrary and unrelated to sequence. Tesla no longer issues sequence numbers as they were only used to determine design studio access which now happens automatically within a few days of placing the reservation. I'm sure in a few months once they work through the backlog the ordering process will work more like Model S, but for now your experience is good advice for everyone. Don't click Order unless you're ready to accept the earliest available delivery date.
