Canoo, a company that aims to build uniquely-styled electric pickups and vans, announced Thursday that it will manufacture the vehicles at a plant in Oklahoma.

Canoo’s 400-acre campus will be in the Tulsa area at MidAmerica Industrial Park, a 9,000-acre industrial complex. The “mega microfactory” will include a full commercialization facility with a paint, body shop and general assembly plant. The factory is expected to bring more than 2,000 jobs to the state. Canoo plans to open the factory in 2023.

Tulsa was previously considered as home to a Tesla factory, losing out to Austin.

Canoo’s offering is built around a “skateboard” that houses components like batteries and electric motors alongside chassis components. The company hopes to build up to 1,000 vehicles next year and up to 15,000 in 2023.

Canoo went public in December through a reverse merger with a special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC).

“Our investment in this manufacturing and technology center means we will deliver vehicles faster at scale – and fulfill our mission to bring affordable, purpose-built EVs to Everyone,” Chief Executive Tony Aquila said in a release.
