While I thought this would be of interest to an EV enthusiast, a number of errors led me to doubt the veracity of the whole article. For instance:
"According to the Federal Government's fuel economy site, a 2020 Tesla Model 3 gets 148 mpg in the city"
Ummm, how does an EV get MPG? (The actual term is "MPGe", the energy equivalent of MPG. Plus, initialisms like "MPG" should be in capital letters. You know, if you write for a living.)
"...the average cost of electricity is 12 cents per kWh. If you figure that into the cost of your vehicle, you'll spend around $400,000 a year charging your vehicle."
I think you missed a few decimal points there. And the annual cost is not affected "if you figure that into the cost of your vehicle", it costs what it costs.
"...you'll need to consider the cost of registering it. There is no traditional engine to worry about."
I'm pretty sure all vehicles must be registered, regardless of powerplant.
Money-Saving Tip: "Unplug your charger when it's not in use."
This linked to another C&D story from 4 years ago about etiquette at public charging stations, and had nothing to do with saving money. I'm no engineer but I'm pretty sure that the electronics in the Tesla Wall Connector will be responsible for 0.0001% of the overall power it consumes, unplugging it makes no sense.
I feel slightly dumber after reading this article. I learn more from reading the forums here!
