Anyone experience their car not "turning on" when they got in? Today I went to go to the store and the car was just dark, i.e no screen, thought maybe it was my phone but the keycard didn't work either. Nothing on the screen, could lock and unlock though.. the battery had 170 miles last night.. so I went and plugged in the charger just in case and it came back to life after about 30 seconds.. not sure what happened but this is not fun, especially for a car 2 days old to me. This should not happen..

Could it be the car was in a certain sleep mode? It had been at least 12 hours since I used it last.. still odd nothing came up until plugged in .

Sometimes the screen locks up upon entry and it takes a few seconds before it responds to touches. I had a similar issue today with the Model 3 after updating the software last night. It was blank for 20-30 seconds and then turned on.

There is already another update that it has installed, so hopefully it is fixed.

Try connecting your car to WIFI and downloading software updates.

You can also post your software version (available in the app / dash) just for curiosity.

My 3 was decidedly reluctant to wake up after getting 2020.12.1
It also stopped connecting to wifi.
The two thumb salute to reboot it resolved both the wake up and the wifi issues though.
Now its on 12.5 and I haven't seen a repeat of it.

I am of 2020.5.10.3, tried to go to the software update screen and switched it to advanced but still no new updates... It's weird the app wouldnt connect at all before them either, so figured it must have been in a deep sleep of some kind, then plugging in the charger brought it back to life.

I have 2020.12.5 (the update after the one where I saw a blackout). I'm on the "standard" update setting. Better to let others work out the bugs.

Maybe the Y has different updates. Are you sure that you have cell service and/or WIFI?

Yeah, I have at least 2-3 bars for cell service and Wifi works too, have streamed some youtube and netflix in my garage to test it. Does it have to be a certain bandwidth for it to update? I should do a speed test just to see I guess.. but either way I at least have a connection for both LTE and Wifi.

Software Version New Model Y

It appears that the Y is a few versions back on the software update stage. I'd expect a new update soon.

You can try contacting Tesla via feedback about your issue.

Yeah, I have to call the service center tomorrow to mention a few other little things I found about the car since picking it up on Friday, my list of items i'd like logged and fixed essentially, couple little dents on the hatch I saw, right rear passenger seat is higher then the others by about 3/4".. nothing major but things I would hope they fix as its a new car. Will mention this and see if they can check the logs or tell me what happened.. maybe force a new update as TeslaFi says their is a newer one. Seems like a lot of people on 2020.5.10.7 now. I think the newer version also fixed the dual zone climate issue as well.

You should still be able to drive the car normally even while the screen is crashed/blank. You won't get any sounds (turn signals) or visualizations, but it should be fully-functional, including Autopilot and automatic lane change.

So it happened again this morning. Went to pull the car out of the garage and nothing would turn on, waited there a couple minutes, tried the hard reboot of pushing in both buttons on the steering wheel.. nothing, couldn't put it in reverse and back out. I have had it happen once when the car would "start" but nothing comes on the screen and I could still drive, but this was like a complete dead car except for unlock/locking. The only fix is to plug in the charger and then in a couple seconds that brings it to life, yet the car has 220 miles of range.. not like it was low... Very annoying, can't imagine this happening somewhere where I don't have a charger right next to it. Also on the latest firmware now 2020.12.11

Seems like a fairly common issue from what I have been reading on these forums,

App not waking car up | Tesla
Failure to wake up in the morning | Tesla
Car still not waking up in February 2019? *UPDATED* | Tesla

Most seem to think its the LTE signal dropping (Wifi apparently doesn't matter, it needs LTE to wake properly). Could explain the API Errors I was seeing. Looks like TeslaFi couldn't connect which would most likely mean the LTE signal dropped as I have wifi just fine in my garage. Very strange that the car waking up would be tied to having an LTE signal.. you would think just opening the door should wake everything up.
