While we are waiting for the ESE ...looking at alternatives.

I have found pricing for the BMW M carbon wheels (aprox 10.000£) accordng to this site:
BMW M4 GTS review - more than twice the price of a regular M4, but is it worth it?

Looking up the BMW M4 wheel specs - there is a centerbore at 72,6 vs. 64,1 on Tesla - BMW are ET29 vs ET40 on Tesla.
finaly BMW is 9Jx19" while Telsa is 8Jx19"
Both have 5x120 with M14x1,5 lugsize.
Im no wheel expert, but to mee it seem these wheel will fit fine with a 255/45/19 tire. I know of a Tesla fellower wich tested and used a BMW wheel as a spare wheel - since they have a wheel wich fitted in the RWD classic frunk.

have no info about weigth savings compered to factory wheels.
the M4 is though a lighter car (3,329 pounds) compared to Model S - maybe the wheels can not take the load..?

The BMW wheels should be a direct fit. I am running OEM BMW forged wheels from my M6 on the Model S.
The forged wheels are lighter and far stronger than the OEM Tesla wheels ... Carbon would be even better

I'm about to abandon ship and get my money back - its been over a year - and no communication for over six months...I really wanted these wheels, and can't believe they can't deliver.... hell this company Emergent Carbon Wheels – High-Performance Carbon-Fiber Wheels was founded by a college student and they are already producing barrels.

Given that you started this whole thread and piqued the interest of many in the ESE's I'm sorry you've reached this conclusion. But it's understandable and totally a ESE's fault for failing to deliver a single wheel and making many false promisies to its customers. ESE seems to be a company that's rotten to its core.

Is there anything to rule out this being an elaborate fraud from day one?

I think we can safely rule out it being elaborate! :D
They were able to take five figures in prepayment charges with some pretty weak photoshop work. At this point, I'm thinking all the other activities were inspired to keep the golden goose working.

I'm still morbidly curious who was left holding the bag here... If the buyers get refunds through the bank, and the fraudsters are back in PR, does the bank just write it off and ultimately recover the loss from all of us...

In the future, I'd like you guys to be a bit more cautious with my money :(

Not so sure I believe they are running to PR with our cash.

I suspect they are working the venture capital markets, and they are struggling to get funding to support equipment/ labor investment - based on linkedin they have hired several mechanical engineers and sales manager, and it looks like the marketing manager left.

I think they will get there but it will take a lot longer than they ever thought.

Hmm.. this is interesting. It's not too far from me (about 20 miles). I wonder if they'd show me around? It's kind of in a ghetto area, not that it matters much for wheel manufacturing.
I'd definitely be in for $1k/wheel, for sure, assuming the weight was in a good place.

Interesting concept ... Carbon barrel with an alloy center

The barrel manufacturer is partnering with a well known wheel manufacturer who is doing the hubs and marketing the assembly. Partners and layers of distribution do not bode well for pricing. ESE likely found that out when they determined they needed to go through distribution as direct only works for so long and pricing established going direct pollutes the use of a channel later on (thus the price hike for ESE's as of yet undelivered product).
