Don't you think Tesla thought of this when the designed the adapter? They must have decided that the charge port can safely handle that much weight. It's not like this is a subtle issue that might have been overlooked.

This adapter is specifically for the North American version Model S. In addition to purchasing the CHAdeMO adapter ($450), fast charging onboard hardware must be activated for Model S without Supercharging enabled. 85 kWh Model S has Supercharging enabled from the factory.
Customers who may use the Tesla Supercharging network in the future are encouraged to purchase supercharging activation ($2500) instead of fast charging onboard activation ($1900). Fast charging activation will only allow for CHAdeMO charging.

The backlog is still there, it's just being cleared irregularly. I'm sure there are people who reserved six months ago, but are still waiting.
I got an availability e-mail today and placed an order. I was put on the waitlist on 6/16/2014.
I just got my CHAdeMO adapter, but kind of decided I really don't need it.
I listed it on eBay with a reserve price to cover my cost.
