Changing Order of AWD Non-P to White Seats, Delivery impact?

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
We ordered our M3 LR AWD non-P on July 13, 2018 and have an estimated Sept-Nov delivery. Still no VIN assisgned yet, and we expect we're fairly low on the list, given that current owners are no longer given preference.

Yesterday, (Saturday), we saw a M3 Performance with the White interior and just loved the look, so we decided to change our order, now that the white seats are available for the AWD non-P (wasn't available at the time we ordered a few weeks ago.

We have not had the edit button since shortly after confirming our order, and on Saturday, the Tesla guys were not able to make that change either - and they were not sure why, since they confirmed that I have not yet been assigned a VIN.

My questions:
Did anyone change their AWD to white seats?
Did you have the Edit Button still or did you have Tesla do it?
Did the change cost anything (above the extra 1500)?
Did the change impact your estimated delivery?

Thanks!

Updated my AWD order to white seats.
Reservation: First day
Original config: 6/27
Original estimate : Sep- Nov
Update to white seats: 7/26
Edit Button: Yes

No changes to the delivery date estimates after the update. I do not have a VIN and the edit button is still there.

Did the change impact your estimated delivery? No, it was Sep-Nov and is still Sep-Nov, however this might be because I ordered in late June when the estimate was 3-5 months. In July, the wait time got cut down to 2-4 months, so it's still Sep-Nov for all new orders. Realistically, Tesla is ahead of schedule and I probably would have been assigned a VIN by now if I kept AWD w/ black seats so it does affect actual delivery date. Editing the order to AWD w/ white seats now probably means that your car will be part of the first batch of AWD white interior cars.

Thanks!

I just requested the change to white seats. I had no edit button since I confirmed the details few days back. I called Tesla this morning and the vehicle advisor emailed few questions that I responded to for them to make this change. I don’t have any confirmation email yet. The advisor said since I don’t have VIN assigned, this change should not impact my delivery. Still Sept-Nov target.

4/18/16 reservation, 6/27/18 black AWD order placed, updated order 7/23/18 for white interior, currently still have the old order page(no confirmation stuff) still have the edit button, Sept-Nov estimate stayed the same after I updated to white interior.

@EVGhost3 @Morgank6 @gravedee I wonder why you all still have the edit button. Mine went away after submitting and confirming all information. I don't have a trade in and am paying in cash. Are you financing or have a trade-in?

I don’t have a trade in but I’m financing through tesla or other depending on rates. I was able to configure initially before they opened it to everyone and my delivery estimate has always been sep-nov. I haven’t received any further instructions to confirm my details.

I called tesla this morning just to inquire about the status of my order and was told that it shouldn’t be delayed by much if at all. The rep said tesla is ramping up AWD deiveries so I should still be within the estimated time if not sooner.
Depending on when the first AWD(non-p) white interior deliveries begin, I’m guessing I should get an update by Aug-September. Or at least the edit option goes away by then.

In the options on my order page I have no trade in listed and outside financing with a CU. I do have a car I'm going to get rid of, but I'll probably use Carmax or Carvana. Once it gets closer to crunch time I'll see if Tesla can beat or match those other options, but I doubt it. I think you saved me a call EVGhost3, thanks. I was about to call and ask basically the same question myself. Seeing as our order are so close we're probably in the same boat.

Spoke to rep at Tesla's 888 customer service number, who told me that they are not going to re-enable my edit button, but will simply make the change to my order and update everything. She could not give me an estimate when that would occur, but said they will send me an email about the change, and that I would be able to see that it was changed in my Tesla page. She confirmed I do not have a VIN yet, and said that I would not be charged for the change, since I do not have a VIN assigned yet. However, she could not tell me how long it will take for them to process the change - apparently a few folks that ordered the AWD are switching to the white seats,.

Hi Everyone, I just joined the group as I was searching for info on the white seats with the AWD. My situation is similar to some, but one step further.

4/1/2016 - reserved
6/27/2018 - configured
7/24/2018 - added white seats (via phone & email; did not have edit button)
7/30/2018 - received delivery specialist email confirming I have VIN

I checked to confirm seats, and it seems seats were black. I indicted I upgraded to white the day after they became available for AWD and forward the email change confirmation to him. Gave the impression he can make the adjustment without affecting my delivery. He confirmed a followup on this matter the following day. Lets see...

mike95, did you receive any email confirmation after you requested the switch to white seats ?

I stayed on the phone with the gentleman to confirm he received my change request (he did) and he gave me a case number before ending the call. I may have been really close to VIN assignment since he did indicate it could take a few days for the change to take place.

I reserved 5/8, ordered AWD with a trade-in on 6/28 and changed to white seats on July 25th. I've always shown Sept to Nov est'd delivery.

I've considered changing to cash and selling my '18 Volt to a dealership with the hope of an earlier delivery, but don't like the idea of trying to make the timing work. Don't want to have to drive an ICE again.

I made deposit early March 2018. Ordered July 27. AWD with White Seats and white paint, w/ AP. I’m in Texas with a Sept-Nov delivery timeframe.

Has anyone had a delivery specialist assigned yet with this Sept-Nov timeframe?
