Charge cable rubber cap needed?

The charge cable on my BMW 330e had a rubber cap on the end to protect it from the weather when not plugged in to the car. Both my UMC charger and type 2 charge cable that came with my Model 3 don’t have any caps. Are they actually resistant to rust etc and don’t need a cap, or should they not be left exposed to the rain?

The HPWC has a slot in the side where the cable end is inserted and hung to cover the end. I use a 14-50 receptacle and purchased a Tesla cable organizer. This also has a slot in the front to hang the cable end and supports the excess cable length.
