Hey,

new user / soon to be new owner.

Just wondering what kind level of charge was on the car when people collected. My guess would be up around the 80% mark?

When I picked my awd drive up at Buena Park, CA last year it was at 100%. They had all the cars that were going to be picked up that day plugged in.

Quick question on this for clarification. If it shows 100% is that true 100% as in charged to 100%? If its set to charge to 80 or 90% will it still show 100%? Does the car come set at 100%? I'm curious since it seems that 80-90% it was most people set the charge to and I know we shouldn't charge to 100% to get the most efficiency out of the batteries.

I think what its charged to depends on where you pick it up and how busy it is. If one has a long trip home, they should contact their delivery center agent and ask for the car to be charged on pickup day. Otherwise, honestly it would be a crapshoot on what charge level they would charge to, but it would likely be "rare" for them to charge it above 90% since thats where tesla itself encourages you to charge to (somewhere between 50 and 90%, with above 90% showing "trip" on the app and in the car).

TL ;DR = dont expect any specific charge level without pre arranging it with a delivery person. I have read of people getting their cars dropped off with home delivery basically empty, for example.

In May 2018, I had about a 200 mile drive home after picking up the Model 3. The day before the delivery appointment, I had talked to the delivery person and requested they have it charged to 100% when I arrive. The car appeared on my phone app about 15 minutes before my delivery appointment and it was just finishing up the full charge on the wall connector in the delivery bay. Back then, the only public Supercharger around was 20+ miles in the wrong direction and then nothing between there and home. There are many more Supercharger stations now, so the charge level wouldn't be as critical for taking delivery now.

The delivery/service center has an on-site Supercharger, so topping off batteries on my request wasn't a problem for them.
