Charge Port Door Not Working - Not missing the chip

I just had mine replaced by a mobile service tech. My car is out of warranty, so I had to pay. The total came to $214.40. Not too bad.

Here's the invoice, before $8.40 in sales tax was added:

I asked the tech if he knew what might've failed that made the door stop working, and he speculated that a sensor inside the unit had failed.

One other interesting tidbit... the new charge port door has random circular thing on the inside face of the door that aligns with the charge port when it closes that was not present on the original door. I snapped a photo in case anyone knows what this is or cares to speculate. (It kinda looks like a magnet, but it's not. The surface feels like a soft-ish plastic film/sticker. And it has a circular indentation in the center of it.)
