Currently attending a convention at the Richmond Coliseum in VA. As I'm volunteering with the sound dept we've been using the service "tunnel" entrance.I noticed several NEMA 14-50's on the walls adjacent to some of the reserved parking spaces.

I asked one of the Coliseum employees about them, and was told they were "shore power for the tour buses". Our organization has a good relationship with the staff there, so I figured I'd give it a shot...
""Interesting, I just bought an electric car, and it uses the same type of plug to charge."

"Do you want to park there and plug in and charge?"

"Sure, if that's OK...

After a quick phone call to the front office they agreed with the caveat I'd assume any responsibility.

10 minutes later and I was charging at 40 amps (only about 210V likely because their air conditioning was working overtime). And with a primo shaded parking spot to boot.:)

I also got to do show & tell for few folks.

Moral of the story: at some venues, "shore power" might be what we want to ask for.
