To eek out more range:
- Slow down. This is the biggest one by far.
- Be careful about your route.
- Make it the shortest one possible, all other things being equal.
- Make it the flattest one possible (fewer hills and mountains), all other things being equal.
- Turn off climate control.
More generally, if you're still at the CHAdeMO station, or if there's another one on your route, try again and/or try a different stall. The adapter can be a bit finicky, as can CHAdeMO charging stations. It might be helpful to know what sort of station you're trying to use, and what the exact failure symptoms are. (Is it
this station? It's got checkins from Tesla owners using the CHAdeMO adapter in November. This suggests it's basically compatible, although a recent problem, or a problem with your adapter, can't be ruled out.) I find that it often takes a lot of force to get the plug to seat properly in the adapter's socket, and sometimes it needs to be tried two or three times even when the first time
seemed to latch correctly. Also, some of them have weird, counter-intuitive latching mechanisms.
You might also look for a level 2 EVSE along your route, especially if your range estimate keeps dropping. It might be a pain, but half an hour or an hour on a level 2 EVSE might get you enough range to limp in to your next Supercharger.
