Every so often, word of a new vehicle leaks out from a dealer convention.
Such was the case in Las Vegas, Nevada where Chevrolet held its dealership convention (more specifically, the North American Dealers Association convention, where a Buick, GMC, Chevy franchise meeting took place on March 24)

A performance electric CUV would sell like crazy in the U.S., provided it beats the Tesla Model Y to market and as long Chevy puts some push and production behind it. It would likely cannibalize Bolt sales though, so perhaps the Bolt will exit as this electric CUV enters? Or maybe the performance CUV will be expensive enough that the two won’t compete for sales? Lots of unknown right now.

Should be easy enough to make a Bolt SS, if they really wanted to bring something to market quickly.

That aside, I'm not sure why people still put forth the idea that GM can compete with Tesla...as a Civic doesn't compete with a 3-series.

It's rare for GM to do anything 'the easy way'. This is a company that will honor your warranty if you tell them it broke on Laguna Seca on a hot day when you were downshifting at 150mph on the 10th lap. If GM says 500 horsepower, it will put out more HP than any competitor's car rated at 500. That's how they get their kicks. Taking a showroom stock car with a GM engineer behind the wheel, and whipping custom built and tuned Porsches with high priced professional racecar drivers in the seat is only fun if the Porsche costs twice as much and can't be purchased by mortals.

With GM Performance or High Performance matters. Performance for GM is Super Sport class or V-Sport class.
Super Sport today is normal engine designs from the 1950's up to 455 HP but with sporting tweaks done to them.

Cadillac calls this class V-Sports, but does not use the pushrod V8's.

High Performance have different designators. Currently pushing 640 to 755 'new method' SAE horsepower is the high performance end of GM's food chain.
These are some of the fastest and best handling cars sold, certainly at their price point.

Both Chevrolet and Cadillac make cars that win international endurance racing competitions. They don't need to 'game' their track times either like Germans and Japanese companies are so famous for. They know to make a car go fast around a track indefinitely.

And until fairly recently GM still held the absolute land speed record for a production electric car at 183mph at Bonneville. Bonneville is salt and a bit bumpy, the car would have gone faster on pavement. You know this car as the EV-1.

Totally off topic but your Dyson knowledge is a bit dated. Look up the V10. It fits anywhere a broom would

Too bad GM insists on making electric cars like the Bolt look like econo-buckets.

When Model 3 ramp up is complete with the short range RWD version, the Bolt is done.

Well now that the 2019 ZR1 has been released, and just set a track record for a production car at VIR, besting the new Ford GT, the Porsche 918, and the Viper Time Attack edition, I'd say they will be into work Monday. Last summer the Camaro set a track record at Nurburgring

A freakin' Camaro. At the 'Ring'. Like a gorilla dancing ballet before the Queen.

Historically, the 2009 CTS-V set a lap record at the 'Ring for 4 door sedans. Old man Heinricy was driving, and says he just left the car in Drive, and cruised around the track. That is based on a personal interview I had with him in 2010.

The Chevrolet and Cadillac you grew up are not what you remember.

The stripper naturally-aspired V6 Camaro with the conventional automatic today is roughly equal to the Model 3LR in acceleration, except it corners faster, stops quicker, has a higher top end, and is $30k. That's standard-level performance. A few hours in the garage for little to no money spent, and it's quicker. Just a reflash away.

If Chevrolet or Cadillac wanted to build a track EV or hybrid, it will most likely be competing with Porsche or M-Series BMW, not Tesla.

The majority of cars sold look like crap. The 3 best sellers in the general categories: F150, Rogue, Camry, are not getting blue ribbons at car shows. You use a car cover, but it's not to protect the paint, it's to stop small children from crying when they walk by.

What they should be making is a performance electric Cadillac. And not the craptastic ELR or CT6 PHEV.

XT4 or XT5 BEV or new nomenclature.

As a Bonus Cadillac is a success in China and still around in Europe. Mostly in Germany but they could open a dealer in Oslo.

Yes! Day before yesterday! With a track-rated "V"-option.

And futuristic styling inside and out that breaks with the current hodge-podge, to merit a name like "Allure" or "AmbEtion" [yes, well].
But definitely not "Appease", "Somnambulist", or "WhatEva".

"Still around" in Europe translated to 916 Cadillacs sold in 2017, with a market share of 0.01%.
While the Model S outsold all the big German luxobarges.
