Chevy Spark EV officially discontinued

No surprise here, since it's redundant with the Bolt EV. Indeed, I was more surprised when they first announced the Bolt EV and said they would continue to manufacture the Spark EV in conjunction.

They actually stopped making them in Aug 2016, when the Spark was changed to the new body style.

As you said, made no sense to offer both but the Spark EV was available to more consumers because of the lower price (minus the fact it was only a CARB state car). The era of <200 mile EV's are coming to an end which will help make the whole sector more mainstream.

This could mean Spark EVs will quickly start to disappear from the road once their original batteries are no longer usable and no aftermarket solutions appear.

This was a CA compliance car sold in minimal quantities. See Monthly Plug-In EV Sales Scorecard: Historical Charts. 23 were sold in 2017. It first went on sale in 2013.

Buying a compliance car with any expectation of long-term value or support always seemed highly risky. Hopefully anyone who bought these things outright (not leased), already factored that into the price they paid...

Guessing nobody bought the "last one off the assembly line". Lumina "last one" was also an orphan.
Maybe a battery breakthrough will bring rescue the rejects.
