The least safe places in the Chicagoland area tend to correlate with socioeconomic status. This unfairly and disproportionately impacts many minorities. I think this is a bad thing. People deserve to be safe regardless of their ethnicity and socioeconomic status. This should not be misconstrued to mean that minorities are responsible for the incidence of crime (by being minorities), as that is factually untrue.
hence: if you're going to have bullet holes in your car, you're much more likely to be a minority due to minorities being unfairly exposed to the brunt of the crime in the Chicagoland area.
short version: people in poorer neighborhoods (who are mainly minorities) are getting the short end of the crime stick, and they deserve better.
EDIT: I should also add that I am a minority, but fortunate enough not to live in a high crime area.
