Choosing Tires - Why would I want low profile?

Glad to know I wasn't going crazy missing something obvious. I live in pothole country (New England) so that's a HUGE factor. The tires on my Camry last MORE than 80K miles if I rotate them properly so these replies have really helped solidify my thoughts on the subject.

The tires are the only thing that "suspends" unsprung mass. If all else is equal a taller sidewall should offer better traction, especially on rougher surfaces. The biggest difference is the ride quality though.
