kind of loud click, like something is unlocking or clicking into gear. Is this normal?
I always assumed that noise is the high voltage contactor closing. Perhaps others can confirm.
I have the same noise. It's pretty loud.
Yep, when you open the door, one of the first things that happens is closing the high voltage contactor to get high voltage outside of the main battery. This is first required to drive the HVAC system. The HVAC is run off the high voltage battery, not the little 12v battery.
And yes, totally normal. All EVs make a similar noise at some point during their power-up sequence.
The noise that it makes when the car shuts down with the HVAC system on is really loud.
