Closing the frunk

Thank you for posting this. My delivery specialist specifically showed me how to "slam" the frunk shut and specially stated that you are supposed to to push down very hard on the "T" logo ....

Of course, this hasn't worked in real practice and I was about to schedule service because the frunk won't really close trying to slam it shut.

Thanks for sharing the diagram. A+

I'm glad I did a search and found this thread because difficulty in closing the frunk was the main reason why I never used it. But I'm still wondering why such a seemingly easy function on most cars to accomplish so different on a Tesla.

The hood is made of aluminum, much softer than steel. That said, maybe they could have come up with a different latch so closing would be more “normal”.

My impression is they did change it in later years so that it's easier to close. However, you still need both hands to close it. The fact it is an electronically actuating dual latch (with safety latch) probably has to do with it, plus the fact the weight of the hood is too light to slam down (as I do in my ICE car, just release it with about a feet or so left and it'll still be able to slam shut by itself).

I rarely ever used my frunk until I got a power frunk kit. Tesla Offer’s kit allows me to open and close from the main screen and has made the frunk the goto option for light groceries and fast food.

But it’s an expensive solution to a problem that shouldn’t exist in the first place.

Yah, power frunk and trunk, and it’s all just a push of a button. No touching the emblem, paint, or any chance of creasing the hood. I’ve had mine for two years and have been very happy. Expensive, a bit, but worth it to me.
