If I lived where you live, for SURE I would opt for the cold weather package... the combo of the heated steering wheel and defrost area of the wipers, washer nozzles and side mirrors are important. This is especially true since there is no warm ICE engine to keep the front of the car warm. If you can afford it, I would get that option in a heartbeat.

I'm not a current owner, but from what someone posted in the Tesla forums it is actually a heated strip on the windsheild where the wipers sit. So it would be effecitve if you trun it on for a few minutes before you drive to remove any built up ice/snow. But it might not be as effective with accumulated stuff while actually driving and using them.

You are correct. It's essentially the same warming elements that are on a rear window defroster, only on the windshield at the wipers' resting place.

This is similar to a lot of cars actually. The strip on the windshield where the wipers sit is heated to melt ice and snow. I wish it was something you could turn on in advance via the app like you can the basic climate control. A warm cabin is nice, but having the windshield pre-melted on a snowy/icy day is nicer.

I believe heated side mirrors are standard on the S, not part of the optional CWP.

Hello Everyone,

Wanted to get everyone's opinion on the cold weather package. Is there a need for this package since you can pre-heat the car through your cell phone? I ask because I live in Southwestern PA and our winters can get pretty bad. I was thinking about getting the cold weather package at the assumed $1,000 cost (per the model S), but since heated front seats come standard (again assuming standard features are the same as the S) and the app heats up the car for you, is there a need to spend the money on this package? If not, I was thinking about using the money on the glass roof instead.

Thanks,

Kal
Which of the cold package's effects on convenience, pampering, efficiency or range are you interested in ?

For me it depends on what will be standard and what will be in the subzero package.

I have a heated steering wheel and heated seats in my Leaf, and even though I'm in GA it's cold enough for me to get some enjoyment out of these. But I probably don't need the wiper blade and windshield washer fluid defrosters.

Heated rear seats would be nice for the kids, but if that's the only part of the package I really wanted then I would probably pass on it and go for another option.
