Colorado Superchargers (location speculation, discussion)

looking for a willing host in Cortez to apply for a grant (anybody know of a good potential host to suggest?)

What about Ute Mountain Casino? About 10 miles SW of town, so might even be out of the utility’s area which has the high demand charges? Or the tribe might chalk up demand charge to drawing more customers? They surely have lots of parking and desire to bring in more customers.
Only went there once but IIRC, Ute Mountain Casino is a total shithole so wouldn't be my first choice. OTOH, it's not like the casino in 29 Palms is GREAT either and casinos do offer 24/7 facilities (and rarely close even during pandemics! :D) so casino superchargers do have their advantages.

Steamboat Springs Colorado supercharger status, anyone?

I am planning a long weekend skiing in Steamboat Springs over MLK day and saw on the Tesla supercharger map that they were expecting to have one there sometime in 2020. As it is now 2021 does anyone know what the status is? I saw in one post that the Steamboat Springs supercharger has been listed as "coming soon" for more than two years...

From what we've heard, they are skipping Steamboat Springs for now and Superchargers will be located in Kremmling and Craig instead. Kremmling opened up a few months back and Craig should be opening any day now.

It looks like Tesla has updated the Supercharger map for 2021.

Added:
  • Craig - ETA Q1 2021
  • Denver East - ETA Q2 2021. We don't know if this is University Hills or a new location. Name seems odd. Will "Denver East" location be located west of existing Denver location?
  • A second Lakewood location - ETA Q2 2021
  • Monument - ETA Q2 2021
  • Westminster - ETA Q2 2021
  • A second Silverthorne location (?) ETA Q4 2021
  • Alamosa has been updated to 2022
  • Mountain Village - ETA 2022
Removed:
  • Cherry Creek (possibly replaced by Denver - East)
  • Denver (possibly replaced by Denver - East)
  • Steamboat Springs (replaced by Kremmling/Craig)
  • Telluride (replaced by Mountain Village)
  • Walsenburg
  • Wheat Ridge (replaced by Lakewood)
I'm surprised there's nothing listed for Durango as I heard that was a possibility. Also, it seems they need something around Pueblo, especially if they aren't putting one in Walsenburg. I wonder if the new Colorado Springs service center will be getting one eventually. They have plenty of room but no real amenities nearby.

It's interesting to see that the map pins aren't always centered above the city names anymore. I noticed that the Denver East pin is close to Colorado Blvd. I don't know if this indicates University Hills or not. Also the Mountain Village pin is located at a highway intersection northwest of Mountain Village. The other pins are still "centered".

Edit: Tesla updated Lakewood and Montrose to indicate they were already open. Originally they were showing as coming soon even though they were both already open.

I agree they need to plan something in Walsenburg/Pueblo and Durango/Cortez. Disappointing that neither is shown on the new map. Let's hope that gets (re)added at some point (FWIW, they claim they will update maps quarterly now).

Regarding Monument, likely another Kum&Go location?

Also removed: Steamboat (as previously speculated)

Thanks for the reminder about Steamboat Springs. I knew since last February that they weren't putting one there so it's been off my list nearly a year now. I updated my post above to indicate it was removed.

Great update @MorrisonHiker I'm disappointed to see the Walsenburg icon disappear after being on the map since 2018. The planned SC at Alamosa helps with camping at Great Sand Dunes NP, but Walsenburg would have bee perfect for camping at Lathrop SP. In our MX 75D, we can't make the Monument-Lathrop round trip without a stop at a level 2 charger.
I'll keep an eye out for construction in Monument. With the level of construction here, the options are numerous.
I suspect the issue in Walsenburg was finding a willing partner to site the SC. There's really only 2 reasonable locations there.

?? I've been camping at Lathrop State Park in my S-60 and I just plugged-in to the RV pedestal at my campsite. Lovely campground:

I know this isn’t necessarily Craig specific but is related. Seems Craig will be the only “officially” planned station for the US 40 route in the near future (i.e 1-2 years). At least, according to the newly updated supercharger map on the Tesla website.
However, Montrose is not listed online (which has been for weeks now) and Silverthorne is also listed offline (which it isn’t).
Thoughts?

If you zoom in on the map, you'll see there are two pins for Silverthorne.

For Montrose, it must be a CDN issue. When I looked last night, it showed Montrose and Lakewood weren't active yet. This morning, they both show as active for me.

I see 3 pins at Silverthorne (there were 2 before the update). Neither of the active ones are correct (one of them says 8 stalls/150kW and the other says 12 stalls/250kW). But hey, they can't be expected to get both the stalls and the kW right, can they? :)

For Montrose and other new sites, my theory is that they started a month or 2 ago working on the new map (using the existing map at the time), then they had to reapply updates from the past 1-2 months to the new map.

Pueblo or Walsenburg would have been much better than Monument. I don't see a need between COS and Denver since the distance is so short. But it's a big gap between COS and Trinidad. At least Alamosa will make a round-trip to the Sand Dunes more feasible.
Totally agree they seem to be really trying to close in tiny gaps in metro areas. Like Westminster is on the list we have golden, Thornton, Loveland, and Boulder do we really need Westminster but I guess a lot has to do with being able to get leases on land and spots that have sufficient power available which is far more prevalent in the metro area.

We are usually at Lathrop with the Boy Scouts in the group camping area--no power a available. I've asked to rent an open RV site for a few hours, but have been turned down. If you use an RV site, recharging is not a problem. We have a TT-30 adaptor for sites that have 30A, but no 50A, service.
