Same here, I remember driving a Mini Metro with a shallow 'dish' strapped to the hood/bonnet, and a ball rolling around in it. If the ball left the dish, you braked or accelerated too aggressively.
I'm glad the S didn't come with that attachment--I'd never be able to keep enough balls on hand (at least with regards to the acceleration part). I definitely prefer the level of regen in the S to that in my Leaf (which is way too anemic), so I'm always letting up on the "gas" too soon when I first jump back into the S, to the detriment of those following behind.
