This thread title got me all excited for no reason. Please remove the exclamation mark . I've heard the iPhone app has already been submitted to Apple for App Store approval, so it should be a matter of days.
I asked about this at the Toronto store yesterday, and the rep told me that it is already out, but "by invitation only" for now.
iTunes App Store is closed for the holidays. Back around new year. Existing approved apps can still be purchased and downloaded, but prices and new/removed/updated Apps are all frozen for the next week.
I was told that, too, during a conversation with Ownership on Tuesday. Too bad the AppStore approvals team is apparently on holiday.
There are 2 options that I know about to distribute 'by invitation only' whereby the app is not available in the App Store. 1. The app is still in a beta phase and tesla can send it out to up to 100 devices per year. 2. Tesla has signed up for an enterprise developer license. This allows you to setup a private App Store to distribute your apps to your business internally. Though the description of the license mentions employees as opposed to clients. Me thinks its still in beta phases and want to run more field testing to make sure all is good.
At 1:29 3G but will use 4G if that's stable by the time the car comes out. Someone was told the modules are both there, waiting for activation.
I'm picking up my car this afternoon at the factory. The app timing question is on my list of things to ask about. I'll pass any new info along if I get it.
I asked a knowledgeable Tesla tech marketing guy at my pick-up in Vancouver, BC yesterday, and he said final beta. So, as others have said-- close! I had to park our new car at the base of our long steep driveway last night, due to ice and delayed winter tires, so I could REALLY use that app right now.
I think I can exercise patience here for this item ... but it better come out before the Texas summer heat; I'm just sayin' ....
