In 2016, after stripping the award from the Model S as reliability issues cropped up, CR inexplicably did not award the title to any car.
In April 2017, after reliability improved, CR initially declined to recognize the Model S as best overall because AEB had not yet been enabled, but a few months later again awarded the crown to the Model S Tesla activated AEB on Autopilot 2 vehicles. This year, Model S once again earned top honors according to CR's rating system. Tesla makes Consumer Reports' Top 10 Car Brands as lone US carmaker
But unlike in 2014, 2015 and 2017, CR did not announce a "best overall" award, and in press materials, its twitter feed and its main reports the Model S's top rating was not mentioned. Instead, the top rating was only mentioned in the brand report card for Tesla:
