The only reason the Model S didn't earn a perfect score was that it needs time to recharge. Depending on price, the Model S has driving range of between 208 and 265 miles. A full charge takes about six hours from an ordinary 240 volt outlet, according to Tesla.
"If it could recharge in any gas station in three minutes, this car would score about 110," said Jake Fisher, head of auto testing for Consumer Reports.

Wow if this is true once supercharger buildout hits critical mass score should be 120! As we all know daily charging is a non-issue in fact simpler than going to the gas station weekly. Once long distance travel becomes easy with superchargers the public will be clamoring for a Tesla!

Consumer Reports: Tesla Model S is the best car we've ever tested.

AnOutsider: Tesla Model S sucks.

Not so much 'sucks' but isn't a high performance sports car. It is a ~5000# behemoth of a sedan, which is what I wanted (well I wanted a ~3800# sedan). It drives wonderfully, but it won't do twisties like a 911, R8, or any number of sports cars. Heck I think my GTI did better in quick turns (granted it was clad with MUCH better tires than the 19" Goodyears) than the Model S does. But it weighed significantly less, and was a PITA to drive long distances because it was very tightly sprung.

I love my Model S. I think it is fantastic. It has high end sports car acceleration and braking, but not lateral quickness. But I don't know of any 911 that will cart 4 adults (much less 5) to lunch. Sure it has the 'seats' but it isn't even close to the same car. It is everything I hoped it would be and more. But it isn't a tool for every job.

I'm too cheap to subscribe to C.R., please download the report and post it. Actually I'm not too cheap, but broke after writing TMC a check for near $100K.

I'm too cheap to fork over the $$ for a Tesla, could someone please leave their car unlocked with the key and title in it for me? Actually I'm not too cheap, but broke after subscribing to C.R. for $6 this month!

Don't ask people to do this. TMC can't host a full article of copyrighted material anyway.

Right. Excerpts are defendable as fair use. The entire article, not so much. Please honor the copyrights of others. Btw, TMC is looking forward to that $100k check. ;)

Looks like the only other car to ever score 99/100 has moved down to 92 (LS 460L).
