Don't know the best place to put this (or if it's been covered)

Yes it's 16 A only, the box probably contains a diode + resistor, so that the EVSE thinks a car is connected.

I looked at their Mennekes plugs, but ended up buying a 32A plug with 5 meter cable from ecarconnectors.com, then fitted the Tesla connector myself. (which took forever)

An alternative approach is to use one of hcsharp's short adapters and one of the ZCW Type 1 to Type 2 cables. This gives you a very light weight 32A solution for both Type 1 and Type 2 Charging Stations. I'm also building a portable HPC with a Type 2 socket that will allow me to charge on the road at 63A (if I carry hcsharp's Type 2 to Roadster cable or an off the shelf 63A Type 2 to Type 1 cable) :smile:

What I like about this approach is that I can charge the Roadster and any car with a Type 1 connector from any Charging Station or 'dumb' socket.

I would improve on this by suggesting up to 3 type 2 outlets in the portable HPC enclosure. That way you can use all three phases from your supply to charge up to 3 Roadsters at once. Think next Roadster invasion! Each outlet requires a separate pilot signal generator but that's not hard. I've been suggesting this overall solution to people in Europe for some time due to the ease of only requiring one cable for everything but there are ce compliance issues with selling it. I can supply the cables (70A) especially anything with a Roadster connector on the end such as type 2 plug --> Roadster connector (with ce marking). If anyone can think of a good way around the compliance issues for the portable HPC... I'm all ears!

I'm really interested in lower cost Type 2 designs that use off the shelf parts that anyone can maintain by visiting their local electrical distributor. I'm a big fan of deploying lots of simple systems to ensure redundancy and drive down costs.

Here's my portable 70A solution which is a test bed for our 43kW solutions (sorry for the poor quality photo's);

Mike, Talkredius; last time I checked with Kevin he said a 3 phase Mennekes EVSE was in prototype stadium with an estimated retail price of L499. I assume you plan to use this EVSE to have the usual "charge 3 roadsters a time" on split phase adapter? Well then check back with Kevin how many phases this EVSE can handle.

Hi Kevin. I'm a bit confused. Is that 63A end-to-end? And where did you source each piece? And can we? Andrew
Sorry for the confusion... in this photo you will find;

63A Type 2 EVSE (off the shelf parts and ZCW PWM module)

70A Type 1 ("J1772") to Roadster adapter (hcsharp https://sites.google.com/site/thecantesla2j1772/home)

32A Type 2 to Type 1 cable (ZCW http://www.zerocarbonworld.org/shop)

So this is restricted to 32A charging by the ZCW cable.

I do also have 70A Type 2 to Roadster Cable (hcsharp http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showthread.php/5159-Conversion-Tesla-Adapter-to-Mennekes-socket/page16?p=114971&viewfull=1#post114971) and when I use that I can charge at 63A :smile:

What current is the blue commando plug rated at?
That's a 32A commando plug... now I have hcsharp's 70A Type 2 cable I'll move over to a heavy duty line connector (or fit 63A contacts in a 32A shell) :wink:

I'm trying to get to the point where I can charge on any 'simple' socket, Type 1, Type 2, or HPC that I find in the wild with the minimum amount of boot space :smile:

Here's the latest 'travel kit'...

Actually I have gotten one of Henry's 'Can' adaptors a while back. I have a version with the Mennekes socket. Unfortunately I haven't been able to source a cable for it. As far as I understood the 'standard' has changed on the car side this year and now no sockets but plugs are used.

Does anybody know where I could buy a cable from to connect to this?
