Could a significant number of pre-configured, finalized Model 3s already exist...?

those robots they have hundreds of copies of are somewhat interchangeable. have replaceable "hand" parts to do different tasks, or you just switch the program for what task they are doing.

the release candidates they said were built with production intent tooling, so the final robots. but to build at higher rates they need tons of them doing different tasks on an assembly line. those robots were getting delivered and installed over the past few months.

doesn't make sense for them to already have built up a secret inventory - they don't want to have cars already built then realize something was wrong. they also want to do real world validation testing ASAP to make sure they are as good as possible before scaling up deliveries.

they are probably doing a large production trial run about now with the whole assembly line to test porduction quality and speed, will do a splashy delivery event, as they shut down to optimize tools and programming, and repeat

This certainly is true. Those of us who have visited the Fremont factory within the last week and have seen no evidence of a Model 3 line completed understand that that very lack proves the point. Just as Area 51 exists and massive voter fraud deprived Mr. Trump of his majority of US votes, JFK was murdered in a vast right-wing anti-Catholic conspiracy and no human being ever landed on the moon, we all know there are thousands upon thousands of already completed Model 3's just waiting to be delivered.

Get real, this thread is ridiculous. We'll be lucky if series production happens by end July. Very lucky indeed we will be.

That's what the tunnels are for, there are a million of them in there ready to swarm out...

Did you really think Elon wanted to make a tunnel company to help traffic congestion? That's just a front, it's clearly for getting cars secretly from the production line to a storage facility. Elon knows we live in an era of cameras everywhere. He's just ahead of the game. +1 Elon, well played sir.

While it's possible they may build some standard configuration cars and sell them out of inventory to expedite early deliveries, I can't see them doing it just yet. There are still test cars out on the roads, so unless the drivers are just out for joyrides, there may be some last minute things they want to check out. Maybe after "news on Sunday" they can set a date to start production and stockpiling for initial deliveries by July month-end.

oh it definitely exists, there just might not be little green men stored in tubes of goo inside.
OK, now I finally understand why the Gigafactory is in Nevada and how Tesla is able to produce so many Model 3s in secrecy. When Elon said the factory will be an "alien dreadnought", he meant it literally. The cars are being built in an alien robotic factory orbiting the Earth. The new robots showing up in Fremont are just a decoy. That's why no one has seen the Fremont factory pumping out Model 3s on the assembly line and no finished cars staged on the parking lot for transport to warehouses elsewhere.

Come on, they would need a giant warehouse only 2 blocks south of the factory for this. You would have seen the RC's coming and going from the back of this warehouse with employees taking pictures. Wait.....View attachment 233421

Hmmm. The fact the photo shows an empty parking lot while Tesla pumps out cars is all the proof I need to know Elon is using intergalactic slave labor in his factories. I hope the UAW doesn't find out about this.

You are probably right in that they haven't built any customer products yet (cool insight into the process, by the way), but they are probably imminent. If they were to start sometime next week, that would give them a good month to crank out as many cars as possible for the final reveal at the end of July.
Timing would be about right; it is a well-established auto industry tradition to stop assembly for a week or two around the 4th of July holiday to upgrade things on the line and get set for new model startup. This generally includes team member training and having suppliers build up a safety stock of certain parts.

We would've seen or heard leaks of the employee config's. Stockpiling random builds makes little sense for all the reasons listed above.

Elon tweeted that info is coming out tomorrow (July 2) regarding M3 release date. Likely to announce opening of the configuration page for employees.

I'm not sure I believe the stockpiling rumor either, but if they were they wouldn't necessarily have to be random. They could be simply based on the options that will be available when they open the configurator. They'd would just be assuming that a number of people would just be going with what is available as opposed to waiting.
