CPO: Car has 1,500 miles more than expected

I received my final paperwork on July 3rd at 6:18pm (picking up tomorrow at 12pm) and noticed the car had 1,500 miles more than advertised when I placed the deposit. I asked my delivery specialist and his response was "I have reached out about the mileage. I’m not sure how that will affect things, but I have asked." Am I being unreasonable to think this is excessive mileage to be placed on the car after placing a deposit? I understand that it was probably used as a loaner, but it really isn't my problem and I expect to get the advertised mileage. Has anyone had a similar experience? What was your outcome? The car has roughly 50k.

I would see if you could get a discount. Tesla discounts by mileage on the CPO and inventory site. Dunno if you will get it, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

And, yes, the car probably was out as a loaner at the time and it took a while to get it retrieved (after someone's road trip, I would guess)

I think they will take care of you (they should) but definetly worth escalating if needed since it's not s simple 100 mile difference. And as you said, what happened (how were the mles added) doesn't matter.

Any update with how tesla has responded? discount?

I believe the usual value deduction they use is $1/mile, so I think you should try and get $1500 knocked off the price.

However, as long as your CPO warranty starts from X miles plus the 1500 extra, instead of the original listed mileage, it really shouldn't matter though. Annoying, but in overall scheme of things, probably bigger things to worry about as long as the overall condition of the car didn't changed significantly over those 1500 miles. I still think it should be goodwill offering on Tesla's part to reduce the price accordingly.

My CPO also had a mileage discrepancy between deposit and delivery (initial MVPA was 661 mi less than the final MVPA), which I caught prior to finalizing with my lender. Tesla discounted the car at a rate of $.30/mile after I inquired with my DS, so the price of the car was reduced $200.

Not a big deal, but this highlights an inherent problem with the CPO process (taking deposit before retrieving car). If every CPO customer is overpaying by $.30/mile between deposit and delivery, this overpayment total could be a significant figure, especially with the now longer prep times for CPO's. Let's hope the P100D loaner fleet comes to fruition soon!

That's a lot of miles, especially if those are loaner miles. We know how people treat loaners.

I have an issue with Tesla's process of putting off-lease vehicles into the loaner pool and then later selling them as a CPO. To me, certified pre-owned is different than certified former loaner.

Did they disclose to you that it was used as a loaner car?

Do Tesla owners really abuse the loaners?

Am I the only one who treats loaners like they are my own. Shop vacuum, Chemical guys foam cannon and two buckets often come out if I have be loaner for an extended period and I return the car in better condition than I received it.

Mine was 3 weeks, however I refused to take the car until it was ready. I am in a P100DL Model X for the time being :) However, I am frustrated by the shitty experience. Below is what was wrong with my car on delivery...

1) We waited 2 hours after our appointment to get the car out of "detailing" and replaced a scratched wheel. When we saw the interior, it was dirty, with a used Resse's wrapper, fingernails/hair and was just overall dirty.

2) The B piller on the drivers side was completely worn in numerous areas, and that the part was ordered over a week ago, however it would be an additional 7 weeks to receive a replacement part?

3) The front end (hood, bumper, and nose cone) was full of rock chips, like hundreds of them. Car looked like it had 200k miles.

4) Another wheel was scratched across all of the spokes. However we waited two hours after our appointment to have a wheel replaced because it was scratched and they missed the other wheel?

5) Tires were measured at 6/32's (the bear minimum) by service, but looked to be lower with minimal tread left.

6) Metal trim throughout the interior was dented.

We were extremely excited to take delivery of our Tesla, but were let down. After owning numerous BMWs, Mercedes, and currently an Audi, the experience was a 1/10 compared to other premium brands. So we didn't take delivery of our car and are in a loaner.

@scottycs

Sorry to hear about your experience, hopefully the SC is taking car of you. Have they agreed to repair all of the items you listed? I should hopefully be taking delivery sometime this summer and hope my experience is more pleasant.

Kudos to you for not accepting the car in this state. I hear its easy to loose sight of these things during pickup.
